Popping sounds

Here's the deal, about 2 weeks ago a lot of popping started occuring one day from my speakers (it happens to my headphones as well), so much that I thought it was a lot of interference or something. That lasted until the next day, when all that would happen is it pop once every 1 or 2 seconds. Very annoying stuff. I just thought my sound card (Audigy 1) was failing, so I took it out and hooked everything upto my previously disabled onboard sound (Nforce2 mobo). This seemed to work ok until yet again, pops were heard. So now I lay the blame on my speakers. I put the Audigy back in, but today I unplugged my speakers and only used the headphones, and I could STILL hear pops.

So pops happen (playing music or not) when I only have headphones in the Audigy, and from both speakers and headphones when plugged into Audigy or Nforce audio. I can't seem to find out what could be causing it, I've tried going from kXproject drivers back to creative's own and that didn't help anything. Is it interference like I first thought or is something more at play do you think? Any help would be appreciated.
