Please Help!

Hey. I just joined this site because I am very overwhelmed and confused with things I am stumbling upon. I have been annoyed with the way some of my music sounds lately because I recently purchased upper line headphones which can really bring the flaws out. I own a good amount of CDs but some of my music is downloaded. Anyway for my iPod I prefer 192kbs I don't know if this is good or not, but I just like having something higher than 128 but not taking up too much space. Anyway, I downloaded MP3Gain yesterday, and have been going through album by album doing "Apply Max No-Clip Gain for Album."  The reason I am writing is because I am seeing a ton of suggestions but I do not understand these very technical terms. If you have a chance could you tell me the way to get the best of my MP3s already converted to 192kbs with iTunes. Also for best results should I just re-enter all of my music onto my computer to avoid the compression (or whatever the term is) problems I have already done. I am a true music lover, I just don't understand technical audio information and I would GREATLY appreciate some pointers in basic terms on how to get the best sound for my music. Thank you very much!

It sounds like history repeats itself.

Firstly I think you need to determine if you are really that good at hearing artifacts. Take a look at this thread (The guy eventually found that he is not that good at hearing artifacts, even at 128kbps):

And you also need to read those pinned posts in the MP3 section:

A recent listening tests shows that a lot of participants cannot determine between a 128kbps LAME MP3 and the original. I am not sure if you will be an exception, but performing listening tests really helps yourself at understanding your ears.

Yes. Thank you very much for the replies. I have already read the pinned posts and TOS, my problem is a lot of this is too technical for me as a newbie to the site. I am just looking for basic pointers. i.e. since my music is already on my computer do I need LAME or EAC? Is what I'm doing with MP3Gain worth my time? Also using just iTunes at 192 can I improve the quality or would that involve me reloading/downlading all of my music? Or anything else? Thanks.
