RealNetworks and Helix buy into Ogg

Well, its on the frontpage of www.vorbis.com

Xiph.org got a Helix grant to continue development of Ogg.
Real Helix player supports Vorbis and Theora (alpha)
And Real will support Vorbis across its client, server, and production tools.

So what does this exactly mean?

Hrm... wasn't Ogg and Vorbis supposed to be supported on Helix since the days of Emmett Plant?

I think the real news there is the 75.000 dollars funding.

Edit:

[23:01:32] <Emmett> They wanted a quote from me saying how wonderful this was, and as part of the deal, they've offered to waive the $10k QA testing fee to get our decoder in RealPlayer/RealOne, etc.
[23:02:15] <Emmett> I said, 'Well, that's all well and good, but why don't you fund the plug-in, as well? You give us some money, we write the plug-in, you implement it?
[23:03:02] <Emmett> So, it'll be announced on Wednesday that we're working on the plug-in, and it'll be out in the next 60 days following that.
[23:03:26] <Emmett> and when you load an .ogg in RealPlayer, it'll automatically run out to the net, grab the plug-in, and play yer file.
[23:05:29] <Emmett> Like I told the team last week... 'If we have to dance with fucks like Real, I'm gonna get some money out of it.'

I personally love the last sentence

BTW: That log is exactly one year and half old. Funny coincidence.
