Title: Still missing opening files from inside WinRAR?
Post by: danc303 on 2010-01-03 15:31:18
After Foobar version 0.9.4.5 the ability to drag and drop MP3's etc from a WinRAR or WinZip archive directly into the Foobar2000 playlist was no longer supported. The "replacement" Archive reader works, but is a poor substitute for browsing using WinRAR which loads faster with a preview and also allows you to choose albums inside an archive you actually want to play. When opening archives across a network WinRAR allows you to select what you want to play without the torturous extraction of files before seeing what is in the archive. Also I understand that mp3's are already compressed, but that doesn’t get around the fact many users have music that is already inside compressed file containers. In other words, I'm not about to extract half a terabyte of mp3 from inside archives just because my player doesn’t like playing from inside archives. Bring back drag and drop, we know it unzips the files locally, which is unwanted as the uncompressed versions frequently stay there until cleaned up (by CCLEANER for example or doing it manually). Please bring it back anyway, I am still using Foobar 0.9.4.5 as it works how I want it to. I'd be happy for Foobar to have no archive reader at all, I'm sure keeping the app light should be top of the list and the archive programs already available probably address this best. Maybe all that is required is just a cleanup utility for uncompressed files after they are played and finished with would be a better approach? Anyone agree with any of this?
