Hello,
Has anyone run into this issue, if you have a soundtrack or various artist cd when ripping the ARTIST field is just populated with VARIOUS ARTIST and the TITLE field gets populated with the artist name and then slash song title? I havent rippied any cds like this in a long time and when i did i found that a lot of rippers handled the tagging like that. I believe music match at the time was the only one that tagged it correctly. Does anyone know of software that tags it correctly?
-Halo
I tag my few VA albums following the foobar2000 wiki's encouraged tag standards (the ALBUM ARTIST field)
http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?ti...d_Tag_Standards (http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=Foobar2000:Encouraged_Tag_Standards)
If you are using EAC & freedb, if the album is flagged as various artists... EAC will parse the artist name out of the freedb: the 'standard' there is artist{space}/{space}title. The artist and title will then be 'correct'. Of course, not all freedb submissions are properly entered.
So, this has more to do with the online CD metadata source, and less the application. Try dBpoweramp for an excellent multi-database source (both commercial & free) solution, called PerfectMeta.
I've seen it happen. Sometimes foobar will do the tag correctly as Album Artist= Various and the actual artist of the track will be in the Artist field. It does depend on what freedb.org has in its database.
I use ALBUM ARTIST for the various artist bit then the ARTIST for the actual track artist.
For some reason ALBUM ARTIST has disappeared from the advanced tagging list in mp3tag tho?
