Hello,
I'm a new user of this forum, I have a little problem and need little help with that, I have to say that I have no great knowledge of digital audio.
I have a DVD Player that don't supports VBR MP3 Files so I have to convert them to CBR MP3 files, to do that I use a soft called " Easy CD-DA Extractor". This soft has a file converter utility wich I use to convert the VBR files to CBR files, the soft convert them without problems and the output CBR files are played in the DVD Player fine but I'm not sure if this method for convert files is right, can anybody help me with that?
Thank you.
I am not familiar with that program's capabilities, and some searching regarded a very scary forum where people were recommending CBR over VBR for... questionable reasons
One program that works for sure and does it the proper way is MP3Packer (http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=MP3packer), created by a fellow Hydrogenaudio forumer. It takes the audio data in the MP3 file and rearranges it around packet boundaries, and it can fill to CBR.
If audio quality matters to you, it is never a good idea to "transcode" from one lossy format (such as mp3) to another lossy format (such as ... mp3). Actually, the mp3 format came out pretty bad in tests done here when transcoding, so it would be a better solution for you to rather re-rip your collection to a lossless format first (assuming you own your own music collection) and then rather encode from the lossless files to a CBR mp3 file.
Also, Foobar (http://www.foobar2000.org) can do the encoding job for you.
However, as UED77 pointed out, MP3Packer will probably do the job you are asking about in an easier way than what I mentioned above...
In an attempt to clarify the responses so far:
It sounds as if you are transcoding from VBR to CBR at the moment, which is generally not recommended, unless absolutely necessary. If your VBR files are very high quality then you may be perfectly happy with the results.
The best option, however, would be to use MP3Packer, which can change a VBR file into a CBR file with no loss of quality.
Edit: NB: Started before sizetwo's edit.
Hello,
I want to thank to all the replies in this topic, I did downlaod the mp3packer soft but I've been having the following problems with it:
I have some mp3 files with VBR bitrate that mp3packer don't recognize as VBR, it reads this mp3 files like CBR and don't change the bitrate, I don't understand why? I checked the mp3 files with encspot and all are VBR, when I play them with any player I can see that are recognized as VBR, so why mp3packer don't recognize them as VBR? Can anybody help me please?
Thank you.
It's possible the VBR headers are wrong or something similar.
If you download foobar there is an option to fix VBR headers. Maybe this will help?

Hello, thanks, I've tried foobar without results, it's like the mp3repacker doesn't want to work for me, I have created some VBR mp3 of my CDs with different software like Easy CD-DA Extractor, EAC, some audio players and I don't know why it recognize all mp3 like CBR and of course no one it's converted.
I guess I'll have to transcode my VBR MP3 for the moment.
Thank you
Perhaps if you post an example then Omion could have a look at it.
