Hi guys, I connected my computer (pc) to my stereo amplifier. I used a 'phono cable' with one plug to go into the computer and two for the amp. I plugged the cable in the 'audio out' on the computer and in the aux on my amp.
Now here's the problem: I get sound only out of ONE speaker, so I must have done something wrong, and it's probably very simple. Maybe I used the wrong cable? Maybe I need two plugs to go into the computer?
If you could help me out, I'd be very grateful.
Thanks
ps. It's a stereo set, two speakers, not surround.
The cable you need is this one :
"3.5mm Stereo Plug To 2 RCA Plugs"

If it doesn't look like this, it probably is the culprit
That's the one I'm using.
Do you get sound out of both speakers when playing from sources other than the PC, ie tuner, cassette, CD player?
Make sure the 3.5mm jack plug is pushed right in - some are a little resistant. Alternatively, you may find that the socket on the motherboard is screwed, as has happened to me before now.

Yes, it works with my cd-player.

It's a fairly new pc, but I suppose it's possible. I have read an online manual on connecting the computer to my hi-fi set, and I followed all the steps, used the right cable etc.
I got it to work. My cable had 3 - plugs for the amp (red, white, yellow), it also for digital camera's and stuff. Anyway, obviously I just used the red and the white since the slots on my amp are also red and white. But it turns out that I had to put the yellow plug into the red thing.. Not logical, but it works..
It had to be something simple like this! Thank you all for helping.
Assuming the output from your PC is (even slightly) amplified, you can try plugging in a pair of headphones (directly to the PC) to see if you get both channels. That would help you narrow it down.
Edit:
Just saw your last post. If you care enough, I'd recommend using a standard red and white RCA to mini cable so you can make sure you're getting your channels right. Cables start from about $6 at Radio Shack (bare minimum).
