FIRST PROBLEM:
I always prepare my own songs with nero waveeditor before editing them with another, semi-professional waveeditor.
But now i realized that nero wave editor 3.0.0.8 doesn't save standard-pcm-wav files!
The files are playable with all players but i can't edit or convert the nero-wav-files with another program (except foobar).
In foobar there is a blank entry at "codec" (whereas other wav-files are stated as "codec=PCM").
In Windows Explorer the nero-wav-files have no entry at "Audioformat" in their properties.
In DiamonCut6 i got following error message:
"The file you are trying to open contains a compressed wave format. DCart cannot edit this file directly but can convert it to a standard PCM wave file"
After pressing "OK":
"ERROR: Cannot open the file. The file may be used by an other program or is corrupted."
SoundEngine can't open the files and BeLight refuses to convert them.
What's wrong?
Do i have to configure a hidden feature in nero-waveeditor?
I tried to save wav-files with all resolutions and sampling-rates, but its always the same.
Btw. converting files with nero burning rom the resulting wav-files are intact.
So i think its a fault/misconfiguration in nero waveeditor.
SECOND PROBLEM:
I installed mausau's audio plugins to be able to edit flac, optimfrog, monkey's audio, wavpack and mpc (if desired) in nero waveeditor.
But through the "Open"-dialog i can't chose other formats than the predefined set of formats. Its also not possible to change to "All files".
I must open the additional files through right-click-->open with in windows explorer.
Editing and saving in these formats is possible, also open and converting them with nero burning rom.
Is it a bug? Or are mausau's plugins obsolete?
THIRD PROBLEM:
There is ac3 mentioned in the predefined set of formats nero waveeditor is able to open. But i can't open them (nero burning rom also refuses to open them).
Do i still need an extra plugin for ac3?
Btw. are there any other plugins than mausau's?
[span style='font-size:8pt;line-height:100%']EDIT:
Added nero waveeditor version number[/span]
Nero v3 is writing waveformatextensible headers. Your programs must be quite old and not know of this 'new' (around 4 years ago) dvelopment from microsoft.
There is an issue though, Nero is writing that header even for normal 2 channel 48KHz 16 bit files, it should not.
The wave files written by nero itself are fine.
Only the files saved with nero wave editor 3.0.0.8 are not editable/convertibly in other programs, except foobar. But i don't have dbpoweramp
Btw. DiamondCut6 is quite new, and handles wav-files with all resolutions and samplingrates up to 32bit floating-point and 192kHz.
And belight as based on besweet should support waveformatextensible headers in any case, shouldn't it?
I might be able to answer a couple of your questions. I have not had any of the trouble you have had with Nero Wave Editor, but the version I use is 2.0.0.34 so I'm not sure if that applies. BTW, one thing I did notice with the version I have is that when even just loading and saving a wav file, it introduces a small error in some samples (as though dithering was being performed).
The WavPack plugin that Mausau created was never updated for WavPack 4.0, so I created one myself that is available on the WavPack website. I have actually not heard of any other 3rd party Nero format plugins besides Mausau's and mine, but they may exist. The SDK has been available for a long time.
Thank you bryant.
I forgot to mention that i use your wavpack-plugin instead of mausau's (i copied it in the same folder).
I never had problems with the old nero waveeditor 2 from nero6.
The problems are new with nero waveeditor 3 and i don't think that the problems are caused by the waveformatextensible headers.
About the plugins:
I tried to create my own nero-plugins for a while, but it failed
When the sdk and mausau's plugins aren't obsolete, i'll probably try it again in a few weeks.
But does anybody know if i still need an ac3-plugin?
Because ac3 is mentioned in the predefined formats in the "open"-dialog.
