Title: Good usenet server?
Post by: rutra80 on 2006-01-10 22:58:22
I need a decent usenet server (for both text & binaries), my priorities are:
1. Cheap (no more than 10euro/month for basic service)
2. Up to date & fast (my and other's posts must appear immediately, not after few hours)
3. Good completeness
4. Good reliability
I don't care that much about retention and bandwidth limits.
What would you suggest?

I hear giganews is very good and very fast.
I use http://www.newshosting.com/ (http://www.newshosting.com/) since it is cheaper and still fast (up to 3-4MB/s I think).

I discovered a thing called "block download accout" - you pay for a block of gigabytes and use them until you run out of them (no matter when) - no subscriptions, no auto-charges. I bought it on Usenet-News (http://usenet-news.net/) and am quite happy so far.
Now, what usenet client would you suggest? The one in Outlook Express doesn't quite cover my needs, and the one in Opera seems even worse.

newsleecher is by far the best client IMO.

I use www.usenetserver.com It's very fast and REALLY cheap for unlimited access.

Also, GrabIt is the easiest reader I've ever used.

Don't forget www.newzmonster.com if you're looking for .nzb files!

The cost is very low and search is much much better IMO.
You can search in posts (thread containing all files for a tv show for example) or individual files.
35c EU a week is as good as nothing.
