Title: Nero 7 Premium officially released
Post by: Gambit on 2005-11-02 16:32:55
The new Nero version has finally been released. It includes many new multimedia applications, such as Nero MediaHome, as well as the long awaited new and improved AAC encoder. Other changes include improvements of the DVD backing up tool Nero Recode, as well as Blu-Ray support.

Well, it seems as if everyone and their brother are downloading it as I tried this morning and am trying now and still can't download the retail version.  I was hoping that they would increase their bandwidth by this afternoon, I guess not.

Edit:  Right as I said this a download went through.  It is running a little slow (160KB/sec on a 600KB/sec connection) but it is going through.

Any word yet on what the upgrade cost will be for those of us that bought the last version outside of the "free upgrade" period?

I will still wait a couple of days before downloading

39 Euro

I'll think about it for a couple of weeks (and end up buying it).

I guess that after years of using Nero "illegally" (but not for a while, okay?) it is a little price to pay.

I don't really need much more than the CD burning app and Recode.

Just tried encoding a staff with extreme schema, which usualy generates 220k aac, however, I got a 196k at last. Then I tried Audiophile, got 274k. So weird that there is such a big leap from the lower schema to a higher one.

I'd be curious to see how the new encoder does with LC AAC at bitates between 80-128kbps, especially compared to QT7 CBR or the new 96kbps VBR profile. With all the hype about HE AAC at lower bitrates (64 and under), it would be nice to see some improvement at the lower usable end of the LC range, especially since most portables supporting AAC don't (yet) decode SBR.

I will open a listening test discussion soon. Since Apple didin't release a HE-AAC encoder (or am I talking bullshit?), I will conduce an 128 kbps test soon.

I'd just like to throw my support to the guys at Nero.  I'm playing with the new codec now and it sounds absolutely amazing.  I'm not going to compare it to other codecs out there without performing a listening test (which i don't have time for right now), but sufice to say I'm am extremely impressed.  Right now I'm listening to a Dave Weckl song (read lots of drums = transients) that was recorded on the lowest VBR profile (average bitrate of 38kbps) and I'm seriously impressed.  You guys have done an amazing job, top work!

Testing it is no problem, you can use the 30-day trial version, which AFAIK is fully functional.

I don't know about the app itself, but you should be able to have multiple aacenc (or whatever its called now) dlls on the system at once and swap them out to switch between encoders.

Well, you can't have previous versions of Nero installed as well as Nero 7.  The Nero 7 installation with uninstall all previous versions.  As far as the differences between the Premium and Ultra editions, I don't know.  So far, I have not come across an actuall difference.  I have used Nero Recode, the Nero AAC encoder, the Nero CD ripper, and most of the burning apps for Nero (for both the Premium and Ultra Editions).  I still can't find a difference.

So far, I am pleased.  There aren't very many changes in the different smaller apps of Nero but I am pleased with the mpeg-4 AAC encoder and the different mpeg-4 AAC video encoders.

Latest iTunes, latest Nero, LAME 3.98 alpha and Vorbis aoTuVb4. For anchors, LAME -V 2 --vbr-new as high anchor and MBaacenc 0.3 as low anchor.

For those with century-old boxes, trialing just Nero Recode 2 might be a better choice. Find it at [a href="http://www.nero.com/nerodigital/en/download.php]http://www.nero.com/nerodigital/en/download.php[/url].

Also, one can purchase Nero Digital Pro at http://www.nero.com/eng/Nero_Digital_Pro_InfoPage.html (http://www.nero.com/eng/Nero_Digital_Pro_InfoPage.html).

Edit: Wait, that might not be the latest version of Nero Recode. Says Aug 9th.

No but I had trouble playing a DVD with Nero ShowTime.  I was playing on my Dell Inspiron XPS Gen. 2.  The movie was playing full screen on my notebook, extended to my TV full screen (through regular RCA video), then have a audio output through the digital coaxil port for dolby 5.1 surround sound.  The DVD would kinda skip.  The video would slightly slow down then speed up thus causing a skip in the audio.  It was very dissapointing.  I have only noticed this on my notebook (it has 2GB of RAM and a very capable GPU and CPU so I don't know what is going on) when playing a DVD or VOB files.  Everything is fine when playing mpeg-4 video files.

I reformatted by system last night so I will see if this changes anything or not.

I've had trouble with the save tracks dialog, it won't let me select anything but *.nrg format

and also all the frontends for the nero encoder quit working, i just get some sort of error now, so the only way i can encode to nero aac is through nero, which won't let me select Nero AAC as the output source.

I tried reformatting my hd, and a fresh install of XP SP2 to no avail.

Also, I noticed Nero Home can't even read the tags of it's own Nero Digital audio files, what the hell?

I love Nero, and I love their products, but this is seriously one buggy piece of shit!

I know an update will probably be released soon to fix my problems though, so I'm not to worried.

probably it will be possible to update program parts alone and in a whole online at the first quarter of 2006.

I am using Easy CD-DA Extractor. it uses the Nero AAC encoder.
but after a few (100-200) encodings, the encoding is very very fast (1-2seconds) and gives me no file as result
So i can use the new Nero AAC, only from Nero.
Does dbPowerAmp can encode wavs to mp4 or just Audio cd to mp4? I am asking this because i want to extract wavs with EAC the compress them with something.
Anyway, i don't know why Ahead didn't make a special little program in Nero Pack,  so we could encode mp4 without starting Nero Burning Rom first and click encode or F8.
thanx

assuming that Nero (the company) didn't took this step out of the blue and did research on the two markets (i.e. Europe and USA) they must have found some differences on the understanding at consumer level regarding 'ultra' and 'premium'. as a conclusion, the different naming seems to be understandable, although we don't have the insight Nero assumingly have.

At Ahead's site two versions are available for download: one with the Yahoo toolbar and one without; both clearly labeled.

Given its 'net distribution, it seems natural that the trial version would not have as many components to install as the retail version.

I wish.  On neither 7.0.1.4b nor 7.0.5.4 did the new clean tool work.  Both got error message something like Clean could find no valid programs.

Also InCD API failed to load here, too, on clean install of 7.0.5.4.  Did not have this problem with 7.0.1.4b.  Tried clean install of 7.0.5.4 twice with drive restore in between.

Back to Nero 6.

Congratulations on the AAC dll's.  Good luck with the rest.

Too bad I can't download it as this version adds iPod profiles to their Recode software so that I can use the Nero h264 mpeg-4 video encoder.

The Nero servers really need to be updated to keep up with their demand (yes, I legally purchased NEro 7 when it was first released so I am interested in this update).

Thanks for the torrent links.  However, I am at work right now and con't use any torrent software    I currently work for the US government so I don't think they would like me download a torrent client to get Nero 7.0.5.4

Additionally, I don't have the internet at home so this is my only means of getting Nero 7.

The download did finally go through at Nero's home page though.  It is not blazing fast but seems to be pretty steady at around 20 KB/Sec which is good enough for me.  I did find another website that was offering the German language version so I have that to default to in case this download doesn't work.

So, thanks for the help and I am keeping my fingers crossed for the english version to finish downloading from Nero's website.

PS.  I will have to start doing some listening tests now with the new AAC encoder if it is in fact new and not just updated as in the past.

Edit:  Just a FYI for people who can't get Nero 7.0.5.4 downloaded from Nero's website.  There is a German website that has the new version of Nero up for grabs.  Nero is still currently downloading at 20KB/Sec off of their official home page for me.  This German website downloaded Nero at 120KB/Sec for me.  The only problem is that it is the German language version of Nero.  I went through the installation process and didn't see one word of the German language.  Additionally, I started up many of the major applications and they were all in english.  I don't know if there are any regional differences between the English and German language version (as in burning a DVD video disc, the German version might burn in PAL while the English version burns in NTSC but I think that Nero is universal and you can change the burning preferences).  Still, the German version worked just fine.

I can post a link to the website that is offering it.  I don't know if it is against forum rules or not for a junior like me to post links so I will await confirmation.

it's strictly against the rules. also please note that as a junior, you will have to insert in between every ten words of your post the sentence *it's not my fault I'm a noob* (note the color!). not doing so may result in a permanent ban and destruction of the entire planet among other horrible things.
...sure post the link, why not. as long as it no warez site.

You just never know.  The website is not a Warez site but they offer free demo's to a lot of software.  Just keep in mind that you will get pop-ups with this website.  I have not seen the pop-ups but I am sure they are typical to the ones often seen on free websites.  Here is the link for anyone having trouble with downloading Nero 7.0.5.4 from Nero's website:
