I had foobar installed on a Windows 7 PC for a few years. I used it as a server to my receiver to play my flac collection.
I never got much into its layout and how to tweek that. But that install divided the layout into different sections. But I installed it recently on a Windows 8 PC and all it shows is a blank screen where I can load the songs. regretfully I don't really have much time to dig deep into the setup of foobar.
Is there a way to get a great layout, or are they called skins, where I don't have to spend a ton of time learning how to set it up?
I'm mostly using it as my dlna server to my receiver. Occasionally converting flac to mp3.

Consider installing FACETS component.

Just install this: DarkOne (http://tedgo.deviantart.com/art/DarkOne-v2-1-156697932)
You have ''exe installer'' just locate foobar2000 folderclick install...
Then run foobar, and select ''Columns UI''.

Thanks to both of you. I'll check this out. Thanks again.
Just looked them over quickly. I'm going to assume that these are two in the same? That each of these will give me a skin so to speak? Could I switch between one or the other to check them both out?
garym, not sure exactly how to install this component. I tried the instructions (http://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=Foobar2000:How_to_install_a_component) but when I get to where I should be able to select the facet dll file it does not show up. I put it directly into the components folder but that did nothing and did not prompt me to restart either.
mire777, that DarkOne file is a 7Z file. What is that exactly, not an exe?
Edit: I think I got both of these working. One thing about the DarkOne is that there is no bar where you can advance the song to any location in the song that you desire.
Facets is a library viewer; nothing to do with skins.
DarkOne is an unsupported skin/preset layout
Columns UI is an alternative to the default layout components with more customisability.
So no, they're not the same at all.
For a quick setup, without any extra nonsense* you've got View > Layout > Quick Setup.
*) though Facets isn't nonsense at all
Using facets (and yes, it is not a skin, but a way of viewing your library, selecting things, etc.):
My recollection, but it has been a while:
1. install in your components folder
2. restart foobar
3. FILE > PREFERENCES > DISPLAY, choose default user interface
4. Setup facets to look the way you want.
In any case, lots of info here:

Yeah I got Facets to work. I think I must have installed that last time as it produced the features and columns I was looking for.
Now is there a way to toggle off this DarkOne skin I installed? Or do I have to remove it completely to get back to FooBar with Faucets?
Are skin's like DarkOne, an .exe, a common thing that users of Foobar install? I like it but one feature I wish it had was the track bar so I could advance the track. Also you cannot just click between windows you have to use the minimize in the upper right corner to get another screen up front.

How do you uninstall DarkOne? I don't see that in the documentation.
And just curious, was there a reason you recommended this version? Looks like he has more recent versions I'd be curious to try. Also it makes me aware I need to format my music files better and add picture art that would show up.

Mire777 or anyone else that might know. How would I completely uninstall this DarkOne so I can start fresh?
