Hi all. Looking to get into using Foobar more. I've been playing about with layouts and such and I know how I want it laid out I just need a few pointers.
This is how i have it setup at the minute. I have other layouts but this is the simplest layout just to show what's going on, and what I want.

Currently the only extra component I'm using is facets.
I'm having trouble getting my head around the way foobar handles playlists. I've never used anything that treats them this way. (I don't think facets is helping me understand either)
The two playlists you can see on the tabs in the previous image seem to be completely interchangeable. When I select an item in facets I expect the "Library Selection" playlist to become active, and then when I double click on an album or song or whatever within the facets view, I expect it to go to the "Library Selection (Playing)" playlist. However this doesn't seem to be the case. It just seems to send it to whichever playlist it wants.
Currently I am listening to a load of albums, and they are playing in the "Library Selection" playlist, and not the "Library Selection (Playing)" playlist. Which is obviously wrong.
Ideally what I would like is to have the layout as i have posted in the screenshot above. Facets in the top left, active playlist in the top right, then the selected playlist below. To me, this makes the most sense and feels most natural. However as it is now its rather confusing. If I click on an item in the playlist on the right, the same item becomes selected in the playlist along the bottom (Which i only want to be affected by the media library)
When I double click an item in facets I want it to be sent to the playlist on the right, overriding whatever was previously there, and not affect the library selection. Is it possible to have two playlists that don't override each other?
Anyone have any ideas what I'm talking about? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, polite notice. I'd rather not have anyone tell me to go use another media player, or anything like "Get used to it". Its counter-productive nonsensical talk. I want to use a media player that i can customise to my liking, which is why I want to use foobar. There's so much I like about foobar, just this one thing I've never managed to get working as I would like.
Thanks again all!
The LVSP is auto-created and auto-focuses whenever you click to select things in the library viewer (facets in your case). It's terribly volatile and jumpy, and I personally don't like it. How did you make the other playlist?
There are only two playlists. Selection and Playing, Facets made them itself.
Layout wise, all ive done is split the top and bottom, then split the top left and right. Added a playlist viewer on the right, then a tabbed playlist viewer at the bottom.
Any recommendations for replacing facets? It does seem to be acting up somewhat. Something that allows for similar layout and columns would be great.
Thanks for the reply!
file>preference>media library>facets. if you can change the selection action to none, you can then configure the double click action to do what you like.
Thanks for the reply marc2003. I had tried doing it that way and its still not quite right.
When I select something in Facets, I want it to appear in the bottom area. Then if I double click on an item in facets or the bottom area it should get sent to the playlist on the right.
Thanks for the help!
Anyone understand what im after?
Lets say I don't use any additional components other than the vanilla. And lets say I select an item in the library viewer, then I want all of the items contained to be displayed like they are in the standard library viewer selection.
But, I want the current playlist and library viewer selection to be separate.
Any ideas?
Thanks alot!
Sorry to triple post. Is this really not possible?
Basically all im after is what is displayed in the "Selection Properties" element, expect in a column view.
The easiest way I can imagine doing this would be to have the two playlist views. But obviously that doesn't work. If you select a playlist in one viewer it selects that playlist in all instances.
Afaik this is not possible with Facets and the way playlists are handled.
However, it's possible with a slightly different layout. You could add a fourth pane in facets right next of the existing ones to display your track data (you can add custom columns in Preferences -> Media Library -> Facets). You can also change your facets panes to be displayed vertically.
This is how it might look like:
vertical layout:

horizontal layout:

I hope that helps you a bit.
I had actually stopped using Facets. I asked above about using the standard library viewer. But i may just have to give that a try.
i never used it but there's a component that may help
http://foosion.foobar2000.org/components/?id=pqview (http://foosion.foobar2000.org/components/?id=pqview)
from the description seems like it can separate the playlists as you'd like, but i may be wrong.
Using a playlist viewer (which has no setting for which playlist to follow) simultaneously for viewing two playlists while using the Library Viewer Selection Playlist feature?
OP could try using two different playlist viewers. One, EsPlaylist for example, should have settings which allow it to work independently of the other, whether that's by binding it to a playlist, etc.
(Note: I am using Columns UI Filter panels but as far as I remember everything applies to Facets as well. If not, try that.)
I think the ' (Playing)' part makes you overthink what really is going on.
Library viewers such as Facets or CUI Filter panels first generate a playlist to reflect the items you highlighted. If you decide to start playing those tracks, the playlist simply becomes active, but no ' (Playing)' suffix gets applied just yet. Now if you decide to browse your library without stopping the playback, the library viewer must create an alternate playlist to reflect your current selection without overwriting the active playlist (and thus your playback order and tracks). Additionally, the active playlist gets renamed to ' (Playback)' to differentiate it from the alternate one.
If you manually switch to the alternate playlist now and start the playback from there, it will not get renamed, as it is not handled by the library viewer. If you however highlight new items using the library viewer, it will automatically rename (and practically swap) the playlists as you would expect.
This in the end means that you will either look at the currently active playlist, or whenever you highlight new items using the library viewer the alternate ('browsing') one will be brought to front (while the active one remains intact), which is exactly what you need, given I understood you correctly and you don't mind seeing only one (or the other) playlist at a time.
However if you desperately want to have two separate playlists on one screen, you can try what Wander suggested. That is basically just showing the currently highlighted tracks within Facets itself, without generating an actual playlist to reflect that. Make sure to disable whatever 'auto-send selection to playlist' option Facets might have and turn off 'Library viewer selection playlist' in Preferences/Media library, to avoid generating the said playlist based on what you have highlighted in Facets.

Gonna have a try with another playlist viewer. I've tried ESPlaylist and it doesnt really display anything useful.
