Playlist tabs - why are they duplicated?

The tabs to select playlists are now above the playlists, where they should be (in my opinion), and below the menu bar.  I'd like to get rid of the tabs below the menu bar because what's below them is not playlists.  I realize my configuration is not likely to be the same as any other, however..,  Is there any way to do get rid of the tabs below the menu bar and leave them above the playlists?

If I right click on the tabs below the menu bar, the ones I don't want, the entire screen below the menu bar is highlighted and goes away if I cut it.  That's not what I want to do, I just want to get rid of the tabs that are there.  However, if I add a new left/right splitter the tabs do go away and I just have to drag the splitter back to the right edge and I'm back to where I want to be.  So thanks for prompting me to experiment a little more.
