General Audio / Re: The "business model" of hybrid codecs with correction files
Last post by Nick.C -
The ability to create correction files in parallel during lossyWAV processing was more of an "it's possible" feature than an "it's space and time efficient" feature.

My music archive is FLAC and is converted to lossyFLAC for use on devices with limited storage capacity as and when required. I don't make use of the correction feature at all (apart from testing during development)

As a codec, rather than a DSP, WavPack has the significant advantage of being able to reconstitute lossy & correction files "on the fly".

Support - (fb2k) / foobar2000 v2.25 preview 2025-05-12 / 2025-05-09 problem with Radio streaming
Last post by ApacheReal -
As already reported also with the foobar2000 v2.25 preview 2025-05-12 the Track Title field / tag is not validated correctly losing part of the information, the title and artist are not returned correctly.

As widely demonstrated in the video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQwKnp17JV0

The problem has been reported by several users with different configurations and skins both with M-Tag and External Tags 1.5.14

The problem is already present and detected in the JS Playlist sample.

A simple test is to see what the Playback State Display Formatting returns.

Therefore, pending resolution, I am returning to the stable version foobar2000 v2.24.5

Greetings.

Support - (fb2k) / BUG: foobar2000 2.x Seekbar Issues
Last post by KMDXM -
The laptop I primarily use to listen to digital music is on the latest version of foobar2000 (which as of the time of OP is v2.24.5).

Recent 2.x versions of foobar2000 seem to have a seekbar issue where the marker on the playback bar continues to move for a short period of time before jumping back to the paused position. What's more is that near the end of audio files, foobar2000 2.x preemptively plays the audio file that follows in a playlist or queue, which I found especially noticeable when seeking back to earlier points in ending files.

I have tested an installation of foobar2000 v2.0 on a desktop computer to see if these issues are also present, and they were nowhere to found, at not noticeably.

General Audio / Re: Can higher bitrates sometimes sound worse than lower ones
Last post by DVDdoug -
No.

...As long as you define "better" as sounding more like the uncompressed original and the CODEC isn't badly designed.

The bitrate is (partially) related to how much information is thrown-away to make a smaller file and with a higher bitrate less data is thrown-away.

But you may prefer the lower less-accurate bitrate.

3rd Party Plugins - (fb2k) / Re: [Not My Release] ELPlaylist
Last post by tromd -
Ok ignore my previous post for now, what I really want to know is how to expand all subgroups within a group on a single click? At default only the first subgroup is expanded.

Alternatively, if someone could tell me how to collapse subgroups (in this case discs) into the main header. I've currently set to hide the subgroup headers if the main header is collapsed, but since only the first subgroup is expanded the other subgroups remain invisible.

Quickly checked - IT WORKS! THANKS!  :D

Finally we can abandon (very) old "foo_upnp" 32-bit only plugin (as its developer has abandoned it also many years ago) and migrate to modern 64-bit  native environment.
It works also under Linux-WINE in x64 wineprefix.
And regarding DSD: I confirm that we have FIRST 100% working solution for foobar2000 for streaming native DSD playback over home network.

Foobar2000 becomes FREE and complete alternative for other commercial solutions. And it is light years ahead of them, in terms of usability and flexibility. Seriously.  8)
