foobar mobile splits files/songs with the same album title into different albums

I put all the ~1000 files from my personal mix into one folder. Every file in this folder is tagged with the album title "Mix". They do of course have different artist names.
For whatever stupid strange reason foobar mobile splits these files into countless/multiple albums (with the same album art).

What's going on here? How can I have all the files in one album?

Try adding a COMPILATION=1 tag to the files.

different artist names...
multiple albums...
That's almost the textbook definition of a playlist, not an album
Neither an audiophile, nor album snob. Why do ratings threads always have a poster saying 'I don't believe in rating music'?

Include the Albumartist tag that has to be the same for all tracks. Use Various Artists or something similar. This will keep them grouped to one Album if the Album field is Mix for all tracks.

If I'm not mistaken, foobar mobile doesn't let me tag files, does it? So on my desktop PC I would use Properties "Add new" - and then transfer all the files to my phone (again ...)?

Sounds good, will give it a try tonight! Thx.

I *really* don't want to have hundreds of albums with only 1-3 song in my album view. What's your suggestion?

Exactly. Or use a dedicated tag editor like Mp3tag. You can transfer again, or if your phone allows USB access, just edit/save directly on your phone.

Don't forget to rescan your foobar2000 mobile media library:
Tools (Wrench) > Media Library > RESCAN ALL

Well ultimately it is your library so manage it as you wish. Whether you use a single "Album" name for all tracks or a playlist, the result will effectively be the same. That name just falls under the Playlist tab instead of the Album tab.

But an Album is an Album whether they have one single track or a dozen or more. And that is how the Album tab in Foobar's browser works. No different than Artist names, Genres, Composers, etc. I would equally question how one can browse a single Album/Playlist of 1,000+ songs effectively to find what you might be looking for. But that is just my preference.

The thins is: I only want to have the album line on my foobar starting page - for clarity. It begins with where would I put the ~1000 songs if not in *one* folder.
I find it quite annoying/wrong by foobar to split up a bunch of files into different albums if they specifically have *one* similar album name ...

That did the trick - thx a lot!

'Greatest Hits' albums?

You could argue that because they're in the same folder...
