Last post by Klymins -Low pass filters do not have a specific cut off frequency, they have a transition band where attenuation gradually increases.
Many encoders employ cutoffs that appear to be as sharp as they can be. This is easily verifiable by looking at the spectrograms.
If the cutoff appears as sharp as can be that means you have the resolution on your spectrogram set too low to capture it. Increase the resolution and you'll see that there is in fact a continuous process of attenuation with no one specific frequency.
Isn't this as sharp as it can be? (FFT size = 4096)
