It is normal that some discs in secure mode rip at such a slow speed. It also depends on the drive. On my Plextor I get an average of 7/8x for an average CD, sometimes it happens 4x, sometimes 2x, it depends on the disc.

Yea I had some CDs rip fine and one didn't want to rip beyond 1.2x on EAC, but dbpoweramp has ripped everything fine including the slow one.
