Support - (fb2k) / Re: Very long image search (only with Linux / Foobar2000V2)
Last post by AldiMp3 -
Yesterday I tested other Foobar2000-Wine constellations with fresh Manjaro installations without success. It doesn't matter whether only a standard installation, a portable installation, a parallel installation or anything else is installed. 32-bit works perfectly, 64-bit remains a no-go. If you want, you are welcome to test with other wine settings and variants. I'm out of it. Maybe X11 instead of Wayland or something else is helpful. I don't want to know now, because I've caused myself even bigger problems today.

Today I tried Arch and was promptly dealt the ass card. I made an embarrassing mistake in the drive configuration. In doing so, I destroyed my separate home directory. A small mix-up with an empty partition was enough to cause this disaster. Now I'm solving much bigger problems and saying goodbye as a silent reader again.

hi @LUR
Thank you very much for your update.
Can we have tooltip and text (instead of an image) for button (window .CreateButton()) ?

Best regards,

General Audio / Re: The "business model" of hybrid codecs with correction files

What about hardlinking?

I've converted my entire FLAC + Vorbis collection to WavPack Hybrid, with hard links to *.wv and artwork in a different base directory. I confirm that it works very well. It took macOS a little while to discount the hard links as additional storage (which it obviously isn't) but in the end, the correct free space is displayed.

I wonder though: before macOS caught up, it reported free space that was so low (SSD almost full), that I don't know what would have happened during the transcoding if the reported free space had gone to zero? Is it just reported free space (the Finder analyzing what's going on, i.e. just a matter of UI) or does the operating system fundamentally need time to figure out actual free space?

Result: my WavPack Hybrid collection (-fx3 / 384 kbps) is 252 GiB. My FLAC collection (-8) is 244 GiB, my Ogg collection (that I have since deleted) was about 52 GiB. As far as lossless + lossy goes, WavPack Hybrid wins.

I was also quite impressed that transcoding from FLAC to WavPack Hybrid with those settings took about 2 hours, +- 30 minutes (I forgot to check exactly). 10 years ago, it would have taken around 24 hours  ;D

General - (fb2k) / Re: Hires Internet Radio - Buffering
Last post by boxerfan88 -
The first 192000Hz FLAC stream I tried works fine as long there is enough big buffering in place.
But I used mpv without any special setup, and first time there was not enough buffering but next time it managed to buffer something more. So as Gus. pointed out its all about buffer length (from network point of view not DAC one).

Thank you for recommending mpv. ChatGPT recommended the same thing to me. I am now using mpv as workaround. So far so good.

Went looking for external player, since ffmpeg wasapi output support is broken or no longer there. ChatGPT suggested mpv.io.

I used mpv to pull in the internet radio stream, then playout on VBCABLE for foo_record to pick up.
(this is similar to my Tidal setup)

c:\misc_tools\mpv\mpv.exe --osd-level=3 --audio-device="wasapi/{0aa4a1e8-0bce-4ca1-a212-a1fbdabaac78}" http://icecast.centaury.cl:7570/SuperStereoHiRes4

So far so good... I'll use this workaround until the foobar internal network streamer gets sorted.

Hopefully future foobar release can show a bit more info in the console when it encounter "Playback interrupted, source is stalling..."

JSplitter v3.7.0

Since the latest ESR (Extended Support Release) version of the SpiderMonkey JavaScript engine that supports Windows 7 is 102.15.1esr, I've decided to make a fork of the main JSplitter version and make a 3.7.x branch out of it. All changes made to the latest version of JSplitter (except for the engine) will be added there as well. The only difference between the 4.x and the 3.7.x branches is the JavaScript engine: 3.7.x will always have the same 102.15.1esr engine, while 4.x will have the latest ESR engine.

Thus, 3.7.x is a branch for Windows 7 users only. Users of modern systems should use versions 4.x
