The QuickTime format is based on the Sorensen Codec.
A proprietary and tightly sealed technology.

You are not getting an acceptable player besides QuickTime to play it. Maybe some haxorgroup has made an attempt to create a pisspoor player with the codec snatched from QuickTime. But it's unlikely that such a player, will support all the technology in QuickTime, and work with the embeddings found in many websites.

You'll have to just live with QuickTime.

Try Media Player Classic. U need to have QT installed for it to play mov files, but at least u won't need
to use it.

I think the 3ivx DS filter for WMP 6.4 or newer should work, because their parser is based on OpenQuicktime and supposed to work with all variants of the MP4 container including *.mov. At least that's what I've been told when asking about the new *.m4a suffix for iTunes4 files. See this thread in their forum:

Actually, mplayer is a Linux movie player that has been ported to Windows... I know that in Linux it supports ALL QuickTime video (including Sorenson stuff) by using a modified set of QT DLLs.

Even though the player works perfectly fine in Windows, you can't use these modified DLLs unless you are in a unix-based system... Perhaps it will work in Windows if you have the QuickTime player installed, but I haven't heard anything about this.

Just some extra info, I have used mplayer on my Debian GNU/Linux system to watch the Matrix: Reloaded trailer (which I know uses both Sorenson video and AAC audio). I remember QT always rendering VERY choppy video in Windows, and I don't have that problem with mplayer.

Video playback on QT 6.1 is still rather badly affected by UI changes on my XP comp, eg, maximising/minimising other windows, bringing windows into/out of focus.
Edit: Oh yah and I was watching the Matrix Reloaded trailer too, and an episode of the Animatrix.

Besides these few choices, there's no other way? Ever since Winamp was released with default video support, I thought I had all popular video formats covered until I downloaded the MR trailer.
