Can't Exclude .cue Files From Media Library


Hi, I put them in the Exclude list but they remain in my library.  The listings in the .cue file show up right next to the actual flac files when I view them in the library (consequently foobar shows 2x listings of every item in my collection).  I'd like to keep the cue sheets in the same folder as the music files.  Any tips?

Are you adding *.CUE to the exclude files in the media library section in foobar?

Yes - I have *.CUE listed in File Types/Exclude in the Media Library preferences page.  I'm running Foobar 1.1.6 in Win7.  Maybe I should clear out my components and do a foobar uninstall/re-install...

That component was just what I needed!  Thanks.

I went from cd flac image+.cue file to separate .flac files a while back.  Not sure why I'm holding on to the old cue files...

When I use foobar, I need to see a highly informative representation of my file system.

I stick to a rigorous naming  and tagging convention;
- All files are lower case
- I only use western latin alpha-numeric characters
- I only use space, dash, full stop, parenthesis (curved brackets), and no other special characters.
- A few other peculiarities not worth mentioning.

I deal with CUE+IMAGE files like this example:

this is a very long filename and death to all non latin (germanic or french or slavic or russian) characters.ape

New Name:

01.cue.ape
01.cue


I go to foobar preferences > media library
and in "filetypes to exclude" I add all this

That is as far as it goes for me; I don't want to filter foobar's playlist view any more than that,
because _I WANT TO SEE THE ERRORS_ if they exist in my tagging and naming (and file deleting !!!).

The CUE sheet (with image) specification doesn't allow as rich a tagging scheme as individual tracks,
This can be a pain if you have a beautifully groomed classical music collection (composer, performer, etc etc).
I get around that limitation by taking full advantage of the <COMMENTS> tag (see further down...).

Here is a total example of storing a classical album:

I take full advantage of foobar's title formatting query syntax and the 'columns ui' filter panel.

If anything unacceptable shows in my foobar playlist, I will spot it and deal with it (right-click "open containing folder" if necessary).

To my shame, I haven't kept on to all of the metadata for my classical CDs (less than 10% of my total number of CDs ripped).  I still have the old .cue files from when I was working with images, but there's very little in the way of metadata in them.  I ripped most of them with PlexTools back in the day and the info in the .cue files is pretty rudimentary.

@sboistan, yes a shame you didn't hang onto your CD infos...

When I rip my media, at the very beginning of the project... before I have even fired up EAC,
I gather my thoughts and thoroughly inspect the info on the CD and do a little cross referencing on the internet.
The first thing I do is create a text file (folder.txt) in the project folder, and I enter essential information which will be used for my tagging and naming.
Later --after I have added the project to my music library and I play the album in foobar-- I add more info to the text file such as reviews and other interesting stuff.

The way I have my foobar playlist viewer columns organized, gives me instant feedback about the file (is it TRACK or .CUE).

A picture tells a thousand words, have a look at this screenshot of my foobar GUI. It is designed to give me maximum feedback about the file properties.
Take note of the .CUE sheet referencing the .WV file ...as I said once before, I need to see a highly informative representation of my file system:

Looks really nice.  I guess I'm someone that doesn't need all of that additional information about my music at my fingertips.  If I had a bunch of vinyl rips like you do, I'd certainly want to hang on to some info about them. 

I actually use Winamp with the ffsox plugin for all of my playback these days (one of the reasons I went from .cue+images to individual flac files with some metadata).  Before I converted to the individual flacs I ran my .cue+images through Cuetools to check accuraterip info.  If you have some rips that you haven't verified with accuraterip, I'd highly recommend using cuetools.
