EAC hangs on one CD (worked before)

Hi everyone, I am having an issue with EAC 1.0beta5 (was having this issue with 0.99prebeta4 also). I was trying to rip a CD for the first time in Windows 7 (I've used EAC for a long time on XP and Linux), and it kept crashing whenever I tried to save the cue sheet. Turns out I had to disable visual styles in the Windows 7 compatibility settings.

Now, however, whenever I insert the CD that I was trying to rip in the first place, EAC hangs, my hard drive access light stays on, and I have end-task EAC and wait 5-10 minutes for it to release whatever lock it put on the drive. All other CDs are working fine, including another one from the same artist off the same local label.

It seems to me this might be an issue with cached gap information or something, any ideas on how to flush it?

That would be beta 1.

EAC only caches gap information if you create a CUE sheet but don't tell it to detect gaps.  When you tell it to detect gaps then it will populate the gap information without detecting a second time.  If you want to clear the gap information, all you need to do is eject the disc.  This behavior doesn't explain your problem, however.

So, are you trying to rip as a single-file image, and if so, is the gap before the first track greater than 2 seconds (the first track starts after 0:00:00.00)?

There's also the possibility of your ripping drive not particularly liking that CD. If it seemingly takes forever for your drive to even recognise the disc that's one clue. To quickly test+verify this is try to rip that CD in a different ripping program, i.e.; BonkEnc, CDex, iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc., and see what they do or don't do. If they also can't rip the disc you can try to rip it using another drive.

My Sony NEC Optiarc DVDRW/DVDRAM drive borks on a small handful of commercially pressed audio CDs that play fine in my DVD player with no issues however if/when ripping them I have to instead use my TEAC DVDRW drive to rip those problem discs. Edit: And those problem discs of mine are all before the invention of copy-protected "audio" CDs.

Thanks for the replies; I was able to "work around" the problem by just leaving it -- after every step, when returning to the main EAC window, it would hang with the hard drive light on for about 5-10 minutes; the CD wouldn't even be spinning. Then the light would go out and all of a sudden the window would be populated and responding again. I just went about my business and whenever I noticed it was up, ran the next step, then waited for it to come back up.

Took a while, but I've got the disc ripped now; the FLACs sound fine. Not exactly the most trust-worthy with respect to gaps and offsets, but for this disc, I'm willing to accept it.
