Which FLAC encoder do I need to download?

Hi, I have used FB2000 for years on MP3 but when I tried to use it to go to FLAC it wants a commandline encoder which I apparently do not have. The FAQ refers users to the RareWare website where it gives no indication of which one I need to download? Can someone give me a quick simple step by step on which commandline encoder this requires? Thanks in advance.

At first: Converting MP3 files to FLAC files will not give you any quality enhancements, the FLAC file will reproduce exactly the same sound as the MP3. FLAC is a lossless codec (look that up in Wikipedia) and will reproduce exactly its source, which is preferable if that is for example a CD or a lossless audio track from a Blu-ray or DVD.

An encoder is only needed, if you want to convert files. The one for FLAC is downloadable via flac.sourceforge.net. With that being installed and foobar2000 knowing its path (which you have to tell it) you can convert any audio file foobar2000 can read to a FLAC file.

If you just want to playback FLAC files, you can do so directly.

Thanks for this info, I already know this I just need to convert a few mp3's to FLAC to complete a file lacking the few mp3's I have. But this link flac.sourceforge.net does not tell me which file I need to use nor does your reply  so I'm still no further along in resolving it.. sorry.

Converting lossy to lossless is completely pointless, especially if one does it to achieve some misguided sense of uniformity (hopefully not related to illegal file-sharing?)

Did you think to click the link that says “download”?

Yes, it does. You want to download a file, so you pick ....... Download.

You are running on Windows, so you scroll down to ......... Windows

You want to install FLAC on Windows, and you aren't using the command line or Winamp 2, so you pick .... "FLAC for Windows with installer"

It's so simple an average ten year old could find it.
