Someone please explain EAC's Various Artists

So...  FreeDB uses various artists naming convention of artist - title. 

I really want songs I rip on various artists discs to be saved with a filename convention of root\Album\Title.mp3 as typically the artist is pretty clear to me after the first few bars,  and the song name is what I am most interested in checking on.

The first few titles that I ripped I took to manually renaming each track to remove the artist altogether,  but this seems likely to be wreaking havok with the ID3 tags.

Under the Filename tab,  I tried various things after ticking the Use Various artist checkbox but ended up settling on %C\%T which does what I want it to primarily in conjuction with renaming the tracks,  but doesn't seem to work otherwise.

I did try to use %C\%T - %A at one point and got really weird results (~\Album\Artist - Title - Title - Artist.mp3  !!)

Can someone explain exactly what is going on here so that I can understand it?

Or,  if that proves difficult,  at least let me know what settings I should use to get the desired results?

Thanks for the links.  I'd already read through the wiki a couple of times but hadn't seen anything that would help me figure out what was going on.

I now suspect that the entries for the titles I was looking at didn't have the correct format separating the artist and title,  the / should be the delimeter according a post in the thread.

Indeed, you should pay attention to the guy that said that: he knows some stuff, and I hear he's incredibly handsome to boot.
