Is my drive toast? Need help fast!

Well when I came home my DvD/RW was closed. Somehow i magically opened and my knee knocked the tray out of it when I turned around. Now I'm assuming its pretty much toast and I need to replace the drive, am i correct in this assumption? cus i cant seem to figure out how to get the tray back in.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

If it is definately toast I will also need to purchase a new drive.  I'm looking for a DVD+-/RW that has all the proper ripping features like C2, HTOA, Accuratestream, and Overread into Lead in and Lead out. Caching isnt a big deal because it can be defeated, but according to http://www.daefeatures.co.uk/search.php the only drive with every single one of those features including caching is the Atapi iHAP422 8.  You guys always seem to rave about plextor drives, any suggestions?

Nvm on the iHAP422 8. My local store only has the iHAP422-98 and Daefeatures doesnt have that one on their list.

I think your drive could be okay! You probably broke some part of the tray, but if you get it back inside the drive and it will then open just enough so you will be able to open it all the way with your hand and then close it, you will be able to use it again!

First try to force the tray back into the drive, but use sensible amount of force. If that wont do, open the drive and try to reasemble it that way.

If however you don't get the tray inside the drive even with opening it, you could maybe try looking for an old absolete drive you might have somewhere and see if the tray from that fits to your current drive.

WARNING! If you'll do some testing while your drive will be opened, you should make sure, the invisible laser beam can't come to your eyes!

Thanks for info. Before I saw your reply i actually took the drive out, opened it up, and got the tray back in. Luckily it seems as though the cogs and laser werent damaged. I just ripped a fairly scratched CD accurately. I got a good laugh from your invisible laser beam comment, dont worry I wouldnt look inside the drive or open it while its running.

Some advice on good ripping drives with all the necessary features I listed above would still be appreciated. My archive still has alot of work, and I trust my own rips more than I trust downloaded ones even if cuetools does say they are accurate. That and what exactly is the 'HTOA' feature? I know what accurate-stream, C2, lead-in/out are, but thats the one feature i havent learned about yet.
