here it is nice progress indication while downloading in Chrome so i wonder is there any way around to make same for Foobar's playback progress

That functionality was never made for playback progress. It's for data transfer/loading or computational processes.

Using it for unrelated/unimportant tasks just turns the taskbar into a christmas tree.

It does.

Check the "Show progress bar" under the "Taskbar button" section in Preferences/Display.
Disregard the constabulary.

Windows 7 has a very cool feature that can show a program's progress in its taskbar icon.  I think it would be cool if foobar2000 showed the currently playing track that way.  For example, if the song was about 50% played, the icon would be half-shaded.

It would also be nice if foobar2000 took advantage of W7's Jump List feature.
