Making a CD From Live Concert FLAC Files

Dazed & confused! I've tried researching on my own but don't seem to be able to get it right. I'm trying to burn CD's for friends who are much less computer savvy than I, and clearly I still have a lot to learn!

1. Take my folder containing FLAC files and info text and drop it into Foobar and using Live Tagger I tag my files, this is for
    my own archiving.
2. Use convert to WAV in Foobar

Okay so now I have WAV files that I can burn a CD from using EAC or other burning program but the CD will not have any
info and since it is a downloaded live show there usually isn't any info on the freedb. After much trial and error I figured out how to create a cue sheet thinking that that was the missing piece but still not right.

So the question is can I burn a traditional audio CD that has Album info embedded?

All you can use is a burning program that will burn CD-Text. You can't tag an audio CD in any other way. Well maybe if you created one with a data track.

Thanks for the quick response, so what is the purpose of a cue sheet?

One of the major benefits I can think of, when creating a CD from a concert, is to use indices.

Your cue sheet should set INDEX 01 at the beginning of a song, and INDEX 00 at the end of it.  This neatly allows you to keep all concert audio, easily skip between songs, and skip to the beginning of some interesting banter, if you so wish.

Without a cue sheet you'd get your INDEX 01 indices, but the INDEX 00 indices are a nice touch (although certainly not required).

Writing cd-text with EAC should work, as long as you have the options enabled and your writer is capable.

I want to make copies of my CDs and add CD-TEXT because my car cd player can read that. How do I do it?

It is done with the cue sheet, you (or EAC) can add TITLE and PERFORMER tags (enable it in EAC options). If you want to burn with EAC, you will also find some CD-Text options in EAC options and don’t forget to activate it in the Drive options. In the Layout Editor, you could also still change title and artists.

Or you could try CDBurnerXP. It will create cd-text from the tags in your FLAC files. And it will accept FLACs directly without having to convert to WAV first (it will process them automatically before writing).

Thx Synth Soul that could come in real handy & trout as well.

Now just so I'm sure that I got it, if I burn a CD, w/out CD Text, and put it in a CD drive unless it is in the freedb or other no info other than # of tracks and their times will show up?

That's right.

Although, you should be able to submit the meta data to freedb, so at least your friends can get the info easily.

No reason not to use CD Text though.

Thanks again!

trout I hadn't used CDBurnerXP in a while and didn't know that it would do either of those things, I love that it burns CD's directly from my FLAC files! Kudos to the developer and the other developers, Live Tagger as one, and folks on the forum who make it easy for people like me to enjoy and share music and wonderful memories!!!!!!

You can also burn directly from the FLAC files by using ImgBurn.  Since it is very lightweight, it includes no DirectShow filters.  That means you must also install the madFLAC filter.  You can then create a cue sheet and burn in ImgBurn.  ImgBurn can write CD text.

If you don't need CD text, you can burn FLAC files direct from foobar2000 using the Burninate plugin, but that doesn't work for some people.
