How to send SPDIF to 2 sets of 4 speakers

As far as I know most modern receivers with 7.1 have the option to drive the main room at 5.1 and the second one at stereo. Or, you can use analogue audio output from the 1st receiver for stereo for the second room. But what if I want to send the SPDIF stream over to receiver and play it in "multi channel stereo" mode, in both rooms (every room with 4 speakers)? Is there any solution, since I don't think you can do this by using consumer receivers. What about some sort of splitting SPDIF into 2 receivers OR using 2 SPDIF outputs from PC at once? Again, is this even possible?

You can split SPDIF (co-ax) quite easily.

There are probably proper devices for it, but I've used active composite video splitters (i.e. distribution amplifiers) in the past without problems. Obviously one with video processing built in won't work - but a basic 6MHz dumb splitter/amplifier is fine.

Cheers,
David.

Many consumer receivers I have seen have SPDIF outputs which allow you to "daisy-chain" them.  I'm doing this with two receivers and a set of computer speakers with SPDIF in.

Like this: SPDIF source (HTPC) -> Receiver 1 -> Receiver 2 -> SPDIF Speakers.  All three play the same thing if set correctly.

Yep, you should just be able to take the SPDIF output from the first receiver and pass it to the input of the next

OK I am going to check some of them. I'm particularly interested in Pioneer.

Right, looking at the current line of Pioneer receivers, starting with the cheapest (VSX-519):

All models from 519 up to 1019 have ONLY one digital output, and that being HDMI OUT as you can see for example here (on the left)

So the question is... will this HDMI OUT socket work for passing the digital audio stream onto the second receiver or is it there just for the purpose of HD video? I have no experience with HDMI so I haven't got a clue.

OR, starting with model LX52 there is also a optical OUT as you can see here (top center, to the right)

Same as with HDMI, I have no experience with optical link. I hope it can carry the same formats as coaxial link.

So now I need to know if HDMI would work or if I really need LX52 with optical output.
