Lexicon BD-30 Blu-ray Player (Oppo BDP-83 Clone) Review — Reviews and News from Audioholics

It's an Oppo BDP-83. Normally we'd launch into a statement like this with more tact. We may, for example, wax eloquent about the Lexicon BD-30's beautiful chassis or it's billet aluminum front face. We could tell you about the heft of the unit, or the fact that comes double boxed with enough padding to warrant throwing it off the FedEx or UPS truck while it's still moving. While all of that is true, the Lexicon BD-30 is still an Oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray Player. And what's more, it's not just using the same parts - they actually stuck the player inside - chassis and all. This would be OK, were it not for the $3000 premium and THX certification. As Sherlock Holmes would say: The game is afoot!

The best part is the high end audio crowd at avsforums still try and defend the product!

Pretty funny, and they are charging $3000 for this?  Will it even work with the Blu-ray 3D specs that were recently released?  Kind of makes me glad that I have stuck with my PS3 for all these years (since its launch in 2006).

Much like most other high end equipment its more or less a scam. The new theta compli blu and ayre DX-5 also offer nothing over the oppo they are "based" upon. Welcome to the work of high end audio. Oh and this also points out that THX is a scam as well since the "lexicon" player is THX certified and yet can not meet the THX specs.

You can't see the magic fairy dust they put on the components, in the pictures.

Maybe lexicon phoned in and had the machina dynamica teleportation tweak added to each unit?

Anyone find out anything new over the weekend? Seems like a lot of main stream tech sites are picking it up now.

Now the lexicon fan boys are trying to say that the thicker chassis of the lexicon will improve audio by reducing vibration.
