View seperate DATE and YEAR tags?

Hi

I have been using Mp3tag recently and I have been storing the Year and actual Date of a mix in the Year and Date tags though using %date% shows the year and %year% doesn't display anything.

I dont want the full date to be viewable in the playlist window just be able to see it on the properties page if possible, how can I view this tag without going into mp3tag?

I assume you are using MP3 files with ID3v2.4 tags.
Please refer to the following mapping tables: foobar2000 and Mp3tag.

I will skip the details and jump right to the conclusion:
"DATE" should not be used in Mp3tag.

In Mp3tag, the main release date should be written as YEAR.
It is saved to a TDRC frame which foobar2000 reads as DATE.

A secondary release date, for example of an individual track, should be saved as ORIGYEAR.
It will be stored in a TDOR frame which foobar2000 reads as ORIGINAL RELEASE DATE.

Just checked my settings in mp3tag and I am using ID3v2.3 ISO-8859-1

Do I need to switch to ID3v2.4 to be able to use YEAR and ORIGYEAR?

You can also use both with ID3v2.3.

Referring to foobar2000 tag mapping and Mp3tag Tag mapping I set the fields RELEASETIME and ORIGINAL RELEASE DATE.
But both tags are written as TXXX-Frames and Mp3tag can only read RELEASETIME.

The other way round in Mp3tag I set the fields RELEASETIME and ORIGYEAR, they are written as TDRL and TDOR but foobar2000 can only read the TDOR (Original Release Date) and RELEASETIME is mapped to RELEASE DATE. If I change value of Release Date then Mp3tag can't read it again (TXXX).

I don't know what do to to get TDRL and TDOR-Frames.

if you are refering to ID3v2.4, foobar writes %date% as TDRC and %original release date% as TDOR (if you use YEAR format, and not full date format, otherwise you'll get TXXX)
those corresponds to Mp3tag ORIGYEAR and YEAR

I don't know why, but my foobar writes %original release date% as TXXX-ORIGINAL RELEASE DATE and %release date% as TXXX-RELEASE DATE

as said, you probably use full date format, instead only the year

Testing whether the entered values are valid is a pain, knowing if the it's valid date in ID3 format is one part, also there is no API to refuse writting tag for this, value-dependent reasons, AFAIK.
Search the forum for details, I think this has been discussed previously more than once.
Full-quoting makes you scroll past the same junk over and over.
