xvid problem

When I try to watch an xvid movie with wmp8, zoomplayer or playa2 it starts with a green screen. Then there are only the differences of the next image changed in the picture. I think the problem is, that the key frames are not read.

I tried a newest version of xvid and older ones, but the problem still occured.

Did someone experience the same probs or does somebody of you know a solution for it?

Some video cards have problems with certain colorspaces, like YUV2 and/or YV12. This may be your problem.
With ffdshow you can experiment, try to disable certain colorspaces and you may find which is the problematic one.
[span style='font-size:8pt;line-height:100%']Just to note: most videos are encoded with YUV2.
You can always check the Doom9 forum, this was most probably answered there already and you may find many more useful details.[/span]

actually it is not a rip of mine . I got it by a friend.

When I rip dvds I use dvdx 2.0 for encoding the video and ogg vorbis for the music.

No. Don't use ffdshow. In my computer this caused green image problem. Try to download Nimo codec package. Install the full option, but don't install the following in direct show filter:
Ffdshow DirectShow --> causes green screen
TFM Audio Filter        --> crash with Morgan Multimedia Stream Switcher
Subtitler DirectShow --> double the subtitle (use VOBSub instead)
Bicubic Resizer          --> don't install if you have no problem
DivX G400 Filter        --> unless you use G400 graphic card

I have tried this in many computers and all of them work properly (all greeny stuff dissappear).

It WILL mess things up for you!
Never download any "codec packs".

mp3chan, Nimo Codec Pack does anything but fix a problem. It has no relation to fixing the green video problem.
As i mentioned before, it has to do with colorspaces, or bad installation.
Search around the internet and you'll see how many crazy problems people have had with Nimo Codec Pack. Go to XviD forum on Doom9 and post about Nimo and you'll be lucky if you come out alive. So yeah, search Nimo Codec Pack at Doom9 forums as well to find info why it's so bad.

edit: Often people have things so messed up because of that codec pack the only way to "fix" it is to reinstall Windows.

Green screen.... Can you try using Video Overlay? Latest unstable Xvid and ffdshow should be no problem at all.
ffdshow works perfectly every place i install it, those "green screens" do happen sometimes when not using video overlay. Hope it helps. Oh, and if you use ffdshow, do change normal IDCT from "Simple" to "XVID", to avoid tinting problems in some scenes.

PD: The "Codec packs" are for very lazy people who will end up paying the prize for their lazyness.
The proggie "Gspot" tells you the codec used in certain .avi/.ogm, so there is no reason you can't go out and find the required codec, should you ever need it.

Actually on my pc it did the opposite! I can now watch all xvid movies I had preserved even though I had (and have) few space left!

I seem to be experiencing with my XviD encoded videos with ogg encoded audio all enclosed in an ogm file!

The problem is, when I use the seekbar to jump forward in the movie, the audio stops completely?

Any ideas why this is happening?

Wow! It seems to be serious. 

I know all this stuff, that codec package mess things up. Because, I also have many many experience with that. The first time I installed nimo was really bad. My TV tunner didn't work anymore. XVID weren't played well either. But I started to wonder why and then found out that it because of some filter that is bad or there is one or more filter that have the same function installed. Now, I have no problem anymore with nimo and I use it to install many codecs at once. Well, anyway I used build 9 not build 8 but I couldn't find the link. I forgot where I downloaded it.

But if you think nimo just a crap. Just don't use it.

If you encoded those with pre-march XviD builds, it's probably because of 'lack' of keyframes.
E.g in some scenes you could have no keyframes within say 10000 frames. When you try to seek there, it would freeze, naturally.
Try to enable 'always search to keyframes' in ogg splitter properties, if you haven't already.
