Personal DVD Database

I am looking for free, opensource database software to help keep track of a 1500+ DVD collection. It must gather information from an internet source (IMDb, Amazon, etc) to store into the database. Information includes:

• year
• rating
• genre
• director
• actors
• synopsis
• case art

It should also have personal notes to save information like binder and page. That way one can physically find a DVD quickly.

I have tried using My Movie Database (MyMDb, http://sourceforge.net/projects/mymdb/ ) without success. Every time I perform a search it errors "The request must contain the parameter Signature". I've found a couple of programs, like DVD Catalog, All My Movies, and DVD Database--Disk Catalog, but all are trials and my neighbor and I are cheap. Again, I'd rather use something opensource and actively developed, but I'll settle for plain free.

Any suggestions?

Well, its totally not designed for what you want, but XBMC has a video library (designed for ripped avi/dvd/etc movies/tv shows) that can scrape pretty much all that from various websites. I don't think it has customizable fields tho it might be possible to re-purpose one of the existing fields that you don't need.

metadata is stored individual xml file for each movie along with separate cover and fanart images.

You would have to create fake movie files for it to work (or rip all your dvds and store them on your computer or nas). Easy to do just copy/paste blank text files with an avi extention.

And there are a number of offline media scrapers designed to make it easier to manage the metadata and case art/fanart.

Well I found a good program for archiving my DVD's, at least for Mac OS X DVD hunter is quite good it does everything you want. It uses amazon and many other databases to get all the info on the DVD's.

Data Crow is exactly what I am looking for. While I am a bit overwhelmed with the interface, I am getting the hang of it. I am a bit frustrated with the fact that I have to create containers in the database, instead of just adding notes, like: case 1 pg 1, etc.

Personal Video Database is much simpler! I think I am going to stick with this one. I happen to be a member of PortableApps.com and this program has a PA.c-compliant release; I'll ask them to check it out.
