Something like Itunes Genius for Foobar2000?

Hi

I've been using foobar2000 for years but after trying Itunes Genius feature, I'm deserting the good path. It is something wonderful that foobar2000 doesn't have!! I want to come back to the good path, it's such a big lose not to use foobar2000, but it's a fact that foobar2000 doesn't have Genius. Has somebody thought at solving this problem to put again foobar2000 on the topmost level of audio-players?

Thanks anticipated
Rozzo

Well, foo_scobblecharts attempts to do something like that, although my results have never been that great with it.

One thing you have to realize is that iTune's genius feature is basically a marketing tool to try and get you to buy more from the iTunes store.
Just because X number of people listen to both of these songs doesn't mean they're actually similar in any way.

foo_scrobblecharts depends highly on the size of your library. It checks for similar artists on last.fm, then it searches your library for them, and shows/plays them in a playlist. The more music in a genre you have, the more scrobblecharts will return hits.

If you really want to learn about/discover new music you need to check what genre your favorite artist is in and tune in on that genrespecific/artistspecific/artistfansspecific/neighbours radio on last.fm (with the last.fm foobarplugin from nausea. This is really the best tool to learn new music by listening to it.)

So, get an last.fm account, start scrobbling (foo_audioscrobbler), start listening (foo_lastfm_radio) and start collecting music, so foo_scrobblecharts will become a cool tool to create nice playlists for you.

With foo_run you can also launch webpages (based on what you are listening) when you stumble upon a great artist when listening to radio. Launch amazon to buy a cd, launch torrentsite to search for a cd and so on.

for example a foo_run command:
Code: [Select]
http://www.amazon.com/gp/search?&index=music&keywords=$replace(%artist%, ,+)+$replace(%album%, ,+)&_encoding=UTF8

Thanks! In the past I have been using MusicIP mixer for similar function, but now I'm not able to send the playlists to foobar2000. This scoobler seems to do fine.

This is an old thread but I just came across it, and while this solution may have become evident over time, and can even be inferred by previous responses, I have begun using genius to create playlists, then export them and open them in foobar2000. I have my windows music folder and itunes folder set to same location, just FYI. The problem with this method is, of course, iTunes supports less formats than foobar, so you would have to convert some things into a format iTunes can work with and add to your library, update genius etc.
