Ogg Vorbis on portables...

- Software name: Pocket DivX Player
URL: http://www.projectmayo.com/projects/detail...php?projectId=9

- For hardware:
iPAQ_PocketPC
Casio_PocketPC
Jornada_PocketPC
Jornada_720_HPC
CASIO_E10x
Jornada_680
PocketPC_2002
Casio_BE300

- Does it support Ogg Vorbis?
http://www.4bitterguys.com/rants/Bluetooth/ - look at step 6.

But...
1) on official page of Pocket DivX Player there is no info about Ogg Vorbis (i can`t see any).
2) Does all of above PocketPCs have enough CPU power for decoding?

So guys, what do you think about it? Anyone have one (or more) of above hardware?

The version .8 player offered for download at the link you provided is grossly outdated....the newest beta, .8p, supports Ogg and .ogm files, among other things. PocketMVP

I own a Toshiba e310, 206Mhz ARM, running Pocket PC 2002 with 32MB RAM and Ogg Vorbis files play great. I wouldn't recommend tring to play Vorbis files unless you have an Intel StrongARM CPU (206Mhz) or greater, as it seems older CPU's (133, 150Mhz) aren't powerful enough to decode the files in real-time (so I've read, anyway). IIRC, one of the requirements for playing Vorbis files is Pocket PC 2002, which rules out older Casios, etc. My old Casio E-105 wouldn't play .oggs if my life depended on it.

There's several options for playing Oggs on PPCs.  All of the ones I've tried on my Dell Axim run just fine.

PocketMusic will supposedly be supporting Vorbis in its next version: http://www.pocketmind.com/pocketmusic.htm
WinamPAQ supposedly supports it as well, but I haven't tried it: http://www.projecteam.org/phpwiki/index.php/WinamPAQ

I don't know for portables, but about realtime decoding...
my sister has a Pentium 60 MHz w/ 32 Megabytes of RAM and Windows 95. It plays Ogg Vorbis flawlessly, it's using WinAmp 2.05 w/ Ogg-plugin.

OGM files???  Realy!!!!!  On the PocketMVP????

I have a iPAQ with Windows2002 and PocketMVP to play my OGG files.  On my main computer at home, I have encoded some OGM files with XviD for the video and OGG for the audio!  Does anyone know if these OGM movie files will work on the PocketMVP...?

[EDIT]  The iPAQ 3630 has a screen resolution of 240 x 320.  The OGM movie files I have encoded are 640 x 360.  Will these work on the iPAQ?  [/EDIT]

As no one replied to my questions above, I decided to try it out for my self.

I re-ripped 1 of my DVDs, encoded to video with XviD and encoded the audio with Ogg, then muxed it together to create an Ogm file.

As the iPAQ 3630 has a screen resolution of 240 x 320, I encoded the video at 320 x 128, which produced a video file slightly under 256Mb which was perfect for the 256 Mb CF cards I use in the iPAQ 3630.

I copied this file to the CF card in the iPAQ

I loaded up PocketMVP and clicked on the Ogm video file in the CF card.

To my amazement, the Ogm video file worked perfectly  , the video was full screen on the iPAQ which looked very good and the audio sounded very good at Ogg -q0.

I loved the iPAQ before, no I love it even more

The PocketMVP has played ogg audio for a long time now, I remember starting a thread ages ago but no one seemed to care
The .ogm support that has been implemented as well is a god send, ogg really helps reduce filesize while maintaining quality. B)

I have an Ipaq 3955.  I'm trying to find a program that will Ogg Vortis files on my IPAQ Pocket PC. I downloaded the Divix program and it does not recognize the OGG files that are on my IPAQ.  How do I get the Divix program to recognize my ogg vorbis files?  Or, is there another program that will work.  I think the Ogg Vorbis encoder is great, I just want to be abe to play my songs on my IPAQ as well as on my destop.

kenny01, do you have the latest version of PocketMVP, Cygnus X1 provided the link in his post. The stable release from project mayo doesn't support ogg iirc, you need the latest alpha release.
