how to play midi file with custom soundfont?

foo_midi apparently has a built-in synthesizer and does not allow the specification of an external soundfont.
How to overcome this handicap?
The easiest way out would be to provide the built-in synthesizer of foo_midi with the capacity to work with custom soundfonts.
or, perhaps by linking foobar to an external synthesizer (sfz.exe, por example) via midi yoke.
The sound quality of midi reproduction would certainly gain with any of these alternatives.
An early answer would oblige.

Until I get around to adding support for BASSMIDI, you can install and configure SynthFont, and then copy the VST instrument to somewhere under C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugins. (Or Program Files (x86) on a 64-bit system.)

Ah, finally I see it written somewhere. It was always said that the foobar midi host can handle any VST instruments, but it was something like an insider joke for me; I don't know anything about VST and a few hours of googling did not make it clear either (okay, I'm not good at it). Now I tried it and it works - somewhat lame and not portable at all, but works for now at least.
