Import Rating from file tags

Hi, I'm trying to switch over to foobar, but I've encoutered a major issue. I can't figure out how to import my ratings from the file tags. With some help from this forum I've figured out how to get ratings working in foobar using the playcount plugin, and I've tried the option it has to import statistics from tags --which gives me nothing.

So how can I get my ratings into foobar from the tags? I'm am moving from WMP 11 and have it set to write ratings to file, and the ratings show up in explorer.

Looking from Mp3tag it appears the ratings are under "ratings WMP". I've changed the column in foobar to %ratings WMP% but still don't get any of the data to show up.
-these are primarily ID3v2.3 tags if that matters.

Try this:

Select all your music, in properties create a new tag field called RATING.

right-click the "ratings WMP" field, copy and paste on the field RATING.

import the statistics and then delete the old tags to avoid conflicts with the playback statistics plugin.
be careful with this, try a few files first to be sure if this works and to avoid losing your ratings!

I can't access the "Rating WMP" values from foobar at all. I can see them with mp3tag, but I see no way of copying those values into a new RATING field.

edit: If I manually edit the tag inserting the start value I can import into foobar using the import statistics. Would be nice If I can could copy and paste, but I guess I can order by ratings and change them in 5 blocks manually. Let me know if there is an easier way than that, but that would not be too bad.
Thanks for the help

-However I would really like foobar to just edit the same tag as WMP does so that my ratings would be maintained over both players. I'm not too hopefully on that now though.

try using mp3tag to copy the Rating WMP field to Rating...

create a new Action> Guess Values:

Source format: %rating wmp%
Guessing Pattern: %rating%

hope this helps. :-P

You can do that within foobar. All you have to do is make the Rating WMP field show in the Properties window.

For that, go to Preferences > Advanced > Display > Properties dialog. Add a new Standard Field : Rating WMP=RATING WMP;

The new field should show up in the Properties window, so you can easily copy all its contents to the standard RATING field in a single operation.

foorious: that is my initial problem. I can make a Rating WMP field in foobar with values %rating wmp%, but no values show up just ?s. If I could get the rating wmp values to show up in foobar I would be set, as I would not need to transfer them to another field because I would just use them as is (that way it would keep my ratings globally in wmp too).

I'll give the create new action method a try, but that still won't help me in keeping a global rating tag for all players.

If you are getting ????'s in the field, it is not because Foobar is not reading the tag......the tag field is empty.

Somewhere between the two programs, you have a error. Maybe a space wrongly placed or something. Also, confirm that you have the exact field spelling from Mp3Tag.

Thanks oao those mp3tag worked wonders. I've got all my ratings in foobar
Any way to stop foobar from bringing up a prompt every time I change a rating asking me if I want to remove rating information from the tag?
I would really like foobar to autimatically overwrite the tag instead of keeping the ratings in its "database".

--it looks like I can do this as an option in playback statistics (automatically synchronize file tags with statistics), but it is not recommended. Any bugs in this option, or reason not to use it?

Today I've had the opposite problem: showing foobar's rating in WMP and explorer..._oao's mp3tag suggestion (swapping the tags) works fine, but foobar seems to not recognize the RATING WMP tag, and if i manually add it to a file without WMP ratings it doesn't, the value doesn't appear...id3v2 compatibility mode doesn't help...any way to do these operations without mp3tag?
