Vista Equalizer

Hi there.
Is it possible to apply a general equalizer on the whole sound output of Windows (Vista)?
I've got an Realtek onboard soundchip and there's no built-in custom equalizer.
I could really use this.

Your "Speakers" sound device in Vista has treble, bass, and balance controls.

Can't seem to find those controls you're talking about.
Furthermore, I'm in need of a much better equalizer (like 10-band) anyway.

Have you installed the audio software from your mainboard manufacturer? I have a Gigabyte GA-MA69G-S3H with a Realtek ALC889A sound chip and the bundled software includes a control panel which has a 10-band equalizer. Can you tell us which mainboard and/or soundchip you have?
FLAC.

It just says "Realtek High Definition Audio". I've also got the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer of my notebook. (It's an ASUS M50SA.)
From what I've read in other forums it seems that there's an actual equalizer included in the driver for XP but the one for Vista only has some useless presets.

I have Realtek High Definition Audio on my laptop.
If I open the sound panel, I have the same shit.
If I open WMP, there is a 10 band graphic equalizer.

So, is there no other way than having drivers with a built-in eq? That sucks.

If you back out to the class driver (which most Realtek works with) you have decent EQ, room correction, loudness equalization, speaker fill for 2-5, bass management and some other stuff.

But you need the class driver for that, and I can't recall if the EQ is for everything or is only a fixed EQ for the player. Sorry.

I totally just found the solution, cuz i had the same issue, just follow these instructions:

<START>
<Control Panel>
<Hardware & Sound>
<Sound>
this will cause the Sound window to pop up,
Double-Click the Speakers Icon
This will open the Speakers Properties window.
Click the Enhancements tab at the top,
You should see a scroll box half way down, 4th from the list is Equalizer,
Click the radial box to turn it on,
down below under Setting drop-down box,
you can now select various presets, and also design your own preset with a 10-band EQ.

ENJOY!!

(ps. i joined to just to post this one haha)

There is another way.
You need Virtual Audio Cable (payware), a standalone VST host (such as Savihost or VSTHost) and a VST equalizer (many are available).
What I'm still looking for is a better VST host, as the two I've mentioned have an important issue when running on DirectSound or ASIO.
Only MME works properly. DS adds a lot of latency to the signal, while ASIO breaks completely in time.
