Xing isn't being developed anymore. And if you want to use it, I think you'll have to pay for the old one.
And maybe you don't know which Xing Version was used for the albums, so doing an available test would be difficult.

When you haven't encoded the albums on your own, then don't trust MRQuestionman's informations. It can display Xing, but in reality it can also be a helix / gogo / fhg / etc. one.

Xing won't be good for your ears. Too old!

Try Helix (download at rarewares.org). It's an "advanced" Xing codec, OPEN SOURCE. With Helix you can also see the advantages of a xing codec (very fast), and it has better quality than old xing. If you want to get best quality stick with lame.

This statement constitutes a TOS#8 violation. Please read the Terms Of Service rules of this forum before posting this kind of statement again.

What settings for both encoders? What versions of both encoders? "Feeling" a difference means nothing. Can you actually hear a difference? ABX test results please.

i really can say that i hear a difference in the bass section. (im encoding Psytrance - -Psychadelic Trance).

for lame its 3.98.2 -V 0 alt preset extreme.
and for ogg (aoTuv b4b) #8 in the scale (256Kbps)

and u want that i do an abx test? how to do that?

You can find an explanation of what an ABX test is HERE. You can install Foobar2000 to carry out the tests. You will need to tick the checkbox for the ABX Comparator during the install process. Further instructions on how to perform the test will follow, but probably not from me. It's 4:30 in the morning here in the UK and I have to sleep some time.

It's only compulsory to carry out the test if you insist on making statements regarding relative quality with no actual evidence that such a difference exists in practice. Sorry if this seems harsh, but HA prides itself on presenting certifiable facts, not possible fiction as fact.

Sure it's real.
But no analyzing program is a magician. I mean, when you've got mp3s or other files you don't know where they're from, you can't be sure if these files are manipulated or something like this.

There are also encoders which are unknown for analyzing programs, so they give you wrong statements (for example EncSpot: it shows me my Helix encoded MP3s as Xing MP3s, and MrQuestionman does similar work).

just look up the help info in the hmp3.exe of the helix encoder, there are the presets shown.

IIRC lame use to write Xing header also. Not sure if it still does. This could cause confusion for your analysis program.
