Realtek ALC882 vs. Sound Blaster Live! 5.1

Hello ppl! I've upgraded my system to Gigabyte GA-8I945GMF-RH  motherboard that has Realtek ALC882 8 channel audio onboard. Until now I've been using an old Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 card (identified by SB site as "Sound Blaster Live! 5.1, DR release 1.3.0").

So the question is: Would the onboard Realtek ALC882 perform better than the SB card in
terms of perfomance and quality? Basically which card it will be better to use?

I primary use sound card to listen music via foobar2000 (btw SB resamples to 48 kHz, does ALC882?),
watch movies via KMPlayer/VLC/PowerDVD and play some games - mostly >4 years old, some DOS ones too.

My sound system is equipped with SVEN SPS-600 (stereo) and AKG K518DJ headphones. System is WinXP SP2, no plans to upgrade to Vista ;-).

Thanks for your replies!

My SB Live! 5.1 is now in its third computer. It is performing very well for a budget card. I never saw the need to upgrade to something more expensive.
It is superior to all onboard solutions I've tried.

Make sure to install these drivers:

Coincidentally I also own the AKG K518DJ. Volume on onboard solutions was always too low. The SB Live powers them well enough.
