emu 0404 USB and Logitech z5450..

Hi all, I had a quick question -

is it possible to hook up logitech z 5450 speakers to an emu 0404 USB using the S/PDIF output?

I have both and a coax s/pdif cord to hook the up together but when i do theres no sound. I've read around some and people talk about driver issues with the emu 0404. would it work better with an optical s/pdif cord?

- any help would be much appriciated
