problems playing some ac3 files

hey folks,

i got problems playing some ac3 files with foobar. i already tried a lot of things but nothing worked.

what is really weird on this problem is that i only cant play some ac3 files... actually i can play them but the sound is very weird. it seems like the track is playing faster. when i open the file with vlc, everything is ok.

furthermore i have ac3filter and the foobar plugin foo_ac3.dll (2008-06-02 12:24:26) AC3 decoder 0.9.1 installed.

heres the MediaInfo of a file i can play without problems:
Format                      : AC3
Format/Info                  : Audio Coding 3
File size                    : 14.0 MiB
PlayTime                    : 4mn 21s
Bit rate                    : 448 Kbps

Audio #0
Codec                        : AC3
Bit rate mode                : CBR
Bit rate                    : 448 Kbps
Channel(s)                  : 6 channels
Channel positions            : Front: L C R, Rear: L R, LFE
Sampling rate                : 48 KHz

and heres the MediaInfo of a file i cant play correctly
Format                      : MPEG-2 Program
Format/Family                : MPEG-2
File size                    : 5.75 MiB
PlayTime                    : 1mn 47s
Bit rate                    : 448 Kbps

Audio #0
Codec                        : AC3
Bit rate mode                : CBR
Bit rate                    : 448 Kbps
Channel(s)                  : 6 channels
Channel positions            : Front: L C R, Rear: L R, LFE
Sampling rate                : 48 KHz

Menu #0
Codec                        : DVD-Video

so the difference is in "Format" and "Format/Family" and in the menu dvd

btw my sound card is creative extreme music and im using vista x64

help would be greatly appreciated

cheers!

The input component doesn't support files encased in MPEG-2 streams. You'll need to demultiplex that file first.

nope doesnt work

when i open the file, i get the message "This looks like mpeg. Do you want to index it?". When clicking yes or no then the error "could not open the file" recieves.

You must click yes. Then an Index is created. The .vob must be on your harddisk because the indexfile is created where the .vob lies

it doesnt matter if i create an index, i always get the error "could not open the file"
furthermore i have no .vob

is there a alternative to avidemux? it somehow got to work, since i can play the file with VLC

where du you have the mpeg?

You can try GraphEdit, but you will have to connect the MPEG-2 splitter to something like Matroska muxer filter, then split the AC3 out with mkvextract.

it aint a .mpeg file

its an .ac3 file!

heres an example: http://www.file-upload.net/download-908199...namic-.ac3.html

what i've found out a few minutes ago is that i cannot play the last seconds of the song, it just skips to the next song... that could be a consequence of the file being played too fast.

GraphEdit says it's an MPEG-2 file, by the presence of the MPEG-2 demultiplexer filter:

And there's the info you pasted above:

Format                      : MPEG-2 Program
Format/Family                : MPEG-2
File size                    : 5.75 MiB
PlayTime                    : 1mn 47s
Bit rate                    : 448 Kbps

You can try the method I used, which involved piping the output of the demultiplexer into Haali Matroska Muxer, then splitting it back out with mkvextract. This method or similar is required as the demultiplexer refuses to connect directly to the File Writer filter.
