I used to be stuck to Lame 3.90.3 and EAC, then I moved onto Lame 3.97 along with both Nero and iTunes AAC.  Now my library is a bit of a mutt in terms of lossy formats but I am fine with that.  I need to go back and re-encode all my lossless files to a single lossy format but I am going through the painstaking process of choosing which format and bitrate.  On one hand I have a 5G 60GB iPod so bitrate won't really be an issue with that.  On the other hand I have a SanDisk Sansa View with 16GB of storage and bitrate kind of plays a role there.  Either way I have some more research ahead of me.

Either way, I used EAC with Lame for quite a bit of time and was always happy with it.  That was until a Nero AAC file encoded at -0.4 would end up sounding the same as a Lame mp3.  The file size differences were astonishing as an album would take up about 30MB less space.  It may not sound like much but when I added up all the space, it came out to about a 10GB library size difference.

Yes. EAC and LAME --aps MP3s work for me too.

I still stick to LAME because it is easy to embed album art while transcoding from my FLAC library to MP3s using CUEProc and Nyaochi's LAME compiles.
