help with organising music library

I have 500 cd's ripped at 320kbs mp3 and use itunes to organise my music. I am thinking of re ripping the cd's using EAC to FLAC to use with a squeezebox and replace my cd player in my hifi. do i have to create folders for artists, albums etc manually, or can i let a program such as itunes do this? Its going to take me long enough to ripp the music let alone create folders for each album etc!

sorry if this has been done to death, any help would be appreciated!

When properly configured (see EAC > EAC options... > Filename), EAC can save your encoded files to whatever file structure you want based on the metadata.

For example, I have EAC save to the following structure:

{music folder}/%ARTIST%/(%YEAR%) %ALBUM%/%TRACKNUMBER%. %TITLE%

so if i were to copy that string it would create a folder in the music folder with an artist subfolder etc? what i want is to save to my music folder with album sub folders (i think!)

Here are some file name schemes you can use with EAC. Copy the bold text.

Artist - Album\Artist - Album - Track - Title = %D - %C\%D - %C - %N - %T
Artist - Year - Album\Artist - Album - Track - Title = %D - %Y - %C\%D - %C - %N - %T
Artist - (Year) - Album\Artist - Album - Track - Title = %D - (%Y) - %C\%D - %C - %N - %T
Artist - Album\Artist - Track - Title = %D - %C\%D - %N - %T
Artist - Year - Album\Artist - Track - Title = %D - %Y - %C\%D - %N - %T
Artist - (Year) - Album\Artist - Track - Title = %D - (%Y) - %C\%D - %N - %T
Artist - Album\Track - Title = %D - %C\%N - %T
Artist - Year - Album\Track - Title = %D - %Y - %C\%N - %T
Artist - (Year) - Album\Track - Title = %D - (%Y) - %C\%N - %T

NAMING SCHEMES FOR VARIOUS ARTISTS

Album\Album - Track - Artist - Title = %C\%C - %N - %A - %T
Album - Year\Album - Track - Artist - Title = %C - %Y\%C - %N - %A - %T
Album - (Year)\Album - Track - Artist - Title = %C - (%Y)\%C - %N - %A - %T
Album\Track - Artist - Title = %C\%N - %A - %T
Album - Year\Track - Artist - Title = %C - %Y\%N - %A - %T
Album - (Year)\Track - Artist Title = %C - (%Y)\%N - %A - %T

Addendum: You can also use a program like Tag&Rename (Google it) to edit your tags and rename your files based on tag information. Hence, Tag&Rename.

airdrawn, I strongly recommend to be a bit patient for some days. There will be a new version of EAC out that has several benefits over the current one:

- it comes with a lossless encoder (FLAC) in case you want to store a lossless backup in HD (better if you change the lossy codec depending its use)
- it comes with AccurateRip, which allows you to use the fast burst mode for ripping while still checking the tracks are error free by utilizing an online database. This is the most important feature for you, since it will speed up the whole things a lot.
- it has a revamped Configuration Wizard that will help you a lot more setting up the compression options (various naming schemes to choose from, correct tagging for the compressors... nothing to be setup by hand).

While you can get almost all of the new functionality with the current EAC version, the benefit of the next version is that FLAC and AccurateRip will be included and as good as working right away once you've completed the wizard. In other words you'll save some nerves when you wait for the next release. It should be out at the beginning of the next month, that is in a few days.
