iPod Audiobooks

Hello everyone

I've been looking on the net the last few days for a way to convert MP3 Audiobooks that I have to Audiobooks for my iPod to take advantage of the extra features it gives for Audiobooks. However, all I have been finding is tedious guides for iTunes...

I am looking for a way to automate this as I have too many of them... it's all tagged and ready to go. I just need a way to convert it to a single MP4 file with chapters for iPod and then rename to M4B. I tried foobar's Convert to Album Images with Cuesheets and Chapters but that doesn't work with iTunes/iPod. Also the iPod plugin doesn't support this yet...

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance
everwicked

So did an earlier Windows user here:

I found that by googling: "apple chaptertool" windows

ChapterTool is the application used on a Mac to do it. From the sound of that thread, which isn't that old, there's no equivalent yet on Windows.

If you know someone with a Mac, there's a script that will do the whole shebang:

Quote
"... enable you to join the files of selected iTunes tracks together--including CD tracks--with QuickTime and export them as a single AAC file/track. Optionally, with Apple's ChapterTool application installed (download link included), it will create a "chapterized" audio file of the exported AAC file".

FWIW, i use Rockbox on my 5G to play MP3 books.  Rockbox does bookmarks.  (for general music listening, i switch between Apple & Rockbox.)

It seems Rockbox doesn't support the 80GB iPod which I have... is there anything else like Rockbox?

there is a linux-project which aims similar things.. you could check this option...

The 80G iPod isn't supported by any of the iPod Linux solutions, unfortunately. It seems Apple changed the disk controller code in a way which is frustrating a port. Still, we live in hope, at least the firmware isn't encrypted  .
