Perfect splitting of single mp3 with cue

I'm talking about splitting LAME-encoded single-mp3 mixes that come with a cue file.

I still haven't found a way of doing it perfectly. I've tried 4 different programs, and none work that well. With three of the programs, the transitions were plain botched. The best one so far is mp3splt-gtk, which still has a barely-audible pop between two songs that are supposed to run together.

I'm looking for something that works like properly ripped LAME mp3s when played in foobar - perfect gapless transitions. Is this possible?

As he's using Linux, gapless players are limited (to my knowledge) to:

MPD + Client
Aqualung
LAMIP

Regarding pcutmp3, it's superb, works exactly how you want it to.

Well alright then, pcutmp3 works! I remember trying it and having problems, but I guess I wasn't using foobar 0.9 back then. That was easy, thanks.

No GUI though, right?

I'm using CUE Splitter for that. Handles mp3 as well as other lossy and lossless formats.

can it handle vbr files? I mean, does it cut mp3's perfectly? I have tried many mp3 splitters and they all weren't able to cut songs at the exact time. They also got rid of the lame-mp3 header. I wasn't happy until I finally came across pcutmp3
--alt-presets are there for a reason! These other switches DO NOT work better than it, trust me on this.
LAME + Joint Stereo doesn't destroy 'Stereo'

Do these programs output files that have the correct time in all players?

The program I use (MusiCutter) is good for frame-accurate splitting, but the length reported is incorrect in the first track of all split albums (Foobar2000 shows the album's length; not the track's length). On VBR material, the album's length shows up as all tracks' lengths in Foobar2000. Anyone have any idea what causes this? I don't believe the program is under development anymore.

That'd be impossible unless you recode everything to a CBR stream I suppose. Why? The awful truth is: Every MP3-related piece of software (including players, cutting tools) have their own quirks -- especially regarding VBR streams. The idea is to combine those pieces of software in a way they're best suited. For example pcutmp3 was designed with lame-tag-aware players in mind -- like Foobar2K. pcutmp3 and Foobar2K go well together. However, if pcutmp3 generated mp3 files lead other players to report faulty track lengths the most likely cause is a buggy player that can't handle MP3 streams correctly. The player doesn't even need to support the lame-tag (unless you want gapless playback).

As you might suspect ... as the author of pcutmp3 I'm biased when it comes to mp3 cutting tools  Honestly, I've no idea what a specific tool other than mine does or doesn't do exactly since I havn't tried them. But reports from other users seem to indicate shortcomings regarding VBR tag generation and/or bit reservoir damages at cutting points.

Cheers!

CUE Splitter does its job well. I too had that problem with splitting up VBR MP3s and hearing that pop (when I was not as bold I listened to music with Windows Media Player). When I put all the split files and listen to it with my current player (FooBar2000[0.9.4.1]), I don't even notice the seem. Luckily, FooBar can play CUEs, which is my preferred media. I don't know if you can get CUE Splitter to work in Linux, since I know next to nothing but how to install Debian-stable.
