Foobar For Mac

Saw the foo for linux post, was wondering if there is something like foobar for mac, I just got a new MacBook Pro, and i love it. But i miss foobar so much. Is there something like it for mac, or a music player with this kind of customization ablility for Mac?

The new mac is an unix, just like linux [hrrm].

Foobar is relying heavely on the windows api, and will not be translated by the owner of the source. No one else will do it, since it is closed source. Best hope is to run it in vmware or something that gives MacOsX a win32 api (does wine work with macintosh?)

speedemon: If you find anything please let me know, but i have been searching and searching with no success. I have been using foobar under Parallels Desktop either in coherancy mode (see first post of link from black warrior above) or on a second desktop with virtuedesktops (the tumbling block for switching desktops is kind of nice). Also, since you got a macbook (pro) you should be able to setup a slapbox if you want (tap your monitor to switch between osx and windows).

Crossover Mac is a more direct approach however it simulates a win2k session via wine under the osx x11 interface, it's got problems such as choppy audio for some (not me), no .net support (needed for many components), and I cant figure out how to define regional settings for the "bottles".

EDIT: I found someone mention LAMIP over in the Foobar on Linux thread. Thier homepage shows a beta version specifcially compiled for OSX you might want to give it a spin.

You could boot your MacBook in Windows XP (using Bootcamp) and run foobar. It works, I do quite some audio work in XP on a MacBook. If you don't want to leave OSX you could try Parallels to run XP while staying in OSX.

What do you mean by create a slapbox? just something that looks like fast user switching? with paralllels running in full screen mode?

and do you have a link for the LAMIP that has been compiled for OSX, i cant seem to load that page, and have no experience in compiling, so if i have a source, i would never be able to figure it out.

sorry the term is "slapbook" not "slapbox" you can find more information including a video demonstration here. Essentially what it does is use Virtue Desktops to create a secondary "virtual" desktop. Then you load Parallels Desktop in full screen on that secondary desktop. Virtue desktops has a plugin that can hook onto the motion sensor in your laptop (most modern laptops have these). The end result is that you can "slap" your macbook and cause the desktop to tumble between OSX and Windows (XP, Vista, 2003, they all work). This is different than fast user switching because both desktops are running. You can start foobar on your windows desktop and still hear it when you switch to your osx desktop.

As for LAMIP the binaries do not appear to be available yet but you can find the source here.

Ok, well i have looked everywhere, and i mean everywhere for the past day, and have not been able to find anything at all for mac!!! this is rediculous, nothing that is in anyway customizable at all. this sucks... looks like i will have to settle with iTunes ..... i miss foobar so much!!!!! thanks for your solutions, but i do not think that i will be able to buy parallels for foobar....

There is a player called Cog, does not have a ton of development, but it is lightweight, and very simple, so anyone looking for something lightweight... that is it..
