How to use QuickTime 6.5.1 to encode mp3 files?

I have some problems. I'm used to encode mp3s or waves with iTunes v4.6.0.15 and QuickTime 6.5.1. All the following releases of iTunes with Quicktime 7 produce aac files with a larger file size. I don't know why.  To not fill my iPod to fast I remained using the old iTunes. But now my iPod is full, so I brought a new one. Now its very hard to sync it with the old iTunes. My current solution is to use VMWare with a Win2k and the old iTunes to encode music files, but thats not very practical. I also tried to use the old Quicktime with the new iTunes, but iTunes check this at the start and exits. So I have looked through the net to find a another solution. Maybe iTunesEncode can help me, but I don't know how to use it with the old Quicktime encoder and it also can't encode mp3's. Don't always want to convert a file to wav, to aac and then copy the ID Tags.
