KS not working for SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio

This is for FB2K running of WinXP Pro on an IBM Thinkpad z60m. The internal sound is SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio. While everything else is working fine, KS does not work. I have tried all output bit settings (16,24,32) and different sample rates(48,96) in PPHS but to no avail. Yes the dll is in the working directory and it loads fine.
Any ideas ?

I have SoundMAX Audio on my work computer running Win2k and KS works fine there.

It's not about KS or DS. It about KS working v/s not working.
I am interested in finding out why its not working and what will make it work.

but if you can get DS to work, then why do you need KS to work? you need to ask yourself why you need it. also, when you download it at the optional components page, it clearly states

Warning: this component is experimental and provided for testing only; it is known to cause stability issues on certain configurations. If you experience any problems while using it, please revert to regular output modes ("Primary Sound Driver" etc).

It worked!
I just did a fresh install of the latest versions of fb2k and the components and it worked BUT it works ONLY for output set to 16-bit and PPHS set to 48Khz. It wont work for any other bit depth and any other sample rate. It will not work even if PPHS is not in the DSP!

Would anybody like to comment on this ? I just want to understand whats going on. Is this how the KS component works or is it because of the soundcard and/or driver characteristics ?

Because your onboard sound probably only supports 16bit audio sampled at 48Khz (the reason DirectSound works is because the Windows kmixer automatically resamples your audio to 48Khz, while ASIO/KS bypasses the kmixer so you need to resample the audio yourself ala with the PPHS resampler).

well its a AD1981HD chipset. According to the datasheet it supports upto 24bits and upto 48Khz.
So I'd imagine it should work with the 24bit and 48Khz setting as well but it doesnt.
