pcm silence before starting playback?

I have a 5.1 channel digital (dts/dd/thx etc etc) home theatre receiver connected with s/pdif to my pc.

When i start playback of say an mp3 file, the receiver needs some time to recognise the audio format, and thus the first .5 second or so is muted.

Is there a way to workaround this problem?  Maybe let the player send a few 100ms of pcm silence before starting playback of actual content?

(soundcard Terratec EWS88D, HT receiver Pioneer VSX908, foobar 0.9.3.1 on xp-prof-sp2)

adTHANKSvance,

pcm silence before starting playback?

I've heard of a cheap trick to correct this. Copy any soundfile off in another directory somewhere, load that file up in media player classic or whatever .. start playing the file and hit pause. Because it is paused, MPC will continually send silence to your receiver and it wont need to resynch. This way you can dump anything else into your windows sound system wave mixer (i.e.: foobar) and the receiver will not need to resynch. Just remember to close MPC if you want to load up a DTS movie etc.
