How to overburn 8cm DVD-R?

I have a problem with burning to 8cm DVD-R. I am not trying to overburn a lot. Here's what happens:





I have tried to burn it on the laptop (on the screenshots), on my desktop PC (with LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1613S AS06) and on my brother's PC (with NEC 3250A). Same results everywhere.

I have also tried different software. Nero, DeepBurner... Nothing works. Either it tells me the disc has not enough free space or I try to overburn and I get an error before real burning even starts.

Alternatively, I also tried to cut the avi file, that I want to burn. I have used VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod... Strange thing happened... I cut cca. 1 minute of video and the resulting file had same filesize. Then I cut a little less (cca. 30 seconds) and the resulting file was bigger! I have also tried to combine the 2 files to one. The resulting avi was also cca. 1MB bigger than the sum of the two divided files... Then I tried some shareware software 'AVI Splitter' and the results were the same. Cut file was either the same size or bigger. I get smaller files only if I cut a lot more than I would like to.

So, to sum up, my questions are:
1) How to overburn 8cm DVD-R?
2) How to cut avi file, so that it actually gets smaller by the cut part?

1) not sure, never had one
2) Split the file with a normal file splitter (e.g. MaxSplitter) in a way that the last 2 MB or so are cut off. You may have to rename the first (big) part to .avi. Then get DivFix and rebuild the index of the AVI.
