Did I make the right choice with Nvidia's PureVideo?

I'm built a Multi media PC and I am going to hook it up to my tv(just waiting for the svideo cable to come through the mail). I went with a Nvidia 7600 GT card for the complete PureVideo Capabilities(especially the Inverse Telecine that ATI doesn't have unless they added it recently). Now I am starting to wonder though if I should of went with ATI's Avivo instead. Has anyone used both and know which is better for normal DVD play back(no HD)? I looked for reviews for compareisons but I could only find outdated ones.

I know that AVIVO is supposed to handle some situations better, but i'm quite pleased with the IQ of my 7600GT. The last ATI card i could compare it to was the 9600 XT i had, which had no AVIVO, therefore i can't tell you if AVIVO is better or not. Anyway, make sure you use the PureVideo Decoder (Trial) or a DVD player software that utilizes the PureVideo featureset on the NVIDIA card. And i use Overlay Mode and Automatic deinterlacing, not Smart. I get pretty nice results this way.

BTW, the PureVideo decoder comes with a media center software, "nStantMedia.exe"... try it out...

Ok, I got it to work. I'm useing the 3 VGA composite cable hook up right now.  It looks pretty cool. I do have only one problem with it though...the movement of people aren't exactly fluid....especially on close up on faces(I'm useing the Deadman on campus movie...it's on original media....not a burnt copy). I can't explain it exactly but it's a like a grid lock and you can see the distortion of a grid movement. I know it's not my computer though because it's a dual core opteron 2.0 gig with 1 gig of ram.
Is there anyway to make the movement completely fluid like as if it were playing on a normal dvd player?
Also, is there a way to make the sound come out of the tv rather than the PC audio card?

Thanks,
-Darin

Although i have a much weaker system and use a GeForce FX5500 card, i'm suffering from jerky TV-out picture too. The picture on the monitor is prefectly smooth, processor usage is relatively small (15-20%), but the picture on the TV is still like running at 15 FPS.

Well, to be honest I have the same problem when viewing a movie  on my CRT monitor, in fact it's more noticeable on my CRT monitor than on my TV.  I messed around with the noise reduction and flicker reduction but it didn't help any. I know my CPU and memory is not taxed heavely...so it isn't that. I'm watching it off the DVD rom in my computer which is pretty fast also, so I wouldn't think it would be that. I'm thinking there's got to be some kind of adjustment, right?

Are you watching it with the PureVideo decoder as a filter in, say, MPC? Or with a DVD player software like PowerDVD?

No, I am use PureVideo only and as the application itself. I think the problem may be centered around the resolution and refresh rate, but I am not sure. It's almost like a jagged effect that kinda causes a slight ghosting.

I decided on a Geforce 7600 GT and Pure Video because I liked the video qaulity of my Xbox when watching a movie with it. Since the Xbox has a Nvidia graphics chip on it, I should be able to obtain the same DVD movie viewing qaulity with a Geforce 7600GT/purevideo right?

Right. My setup (which results in good quality) is: PureVideo decoder installed. Media Player Classic as DVD player software, output set to Overlay Mixer. Filter set to Automatic deinterlacing, hardware acceleration checked. Maybe you want to try that just to see if that would enable smooth playback.

I had inverse tecline on and it created some really bad side effects so I took it off. I also slid the noise filter down to 0 and that helped alot with the waveyness. It still has a slight wavy ghost effect sometimes though but not as bad. I wonder what decoder the Xbox used...I would like to try that one instead of PureVideo.
